Yea, I know, and I'm sitting here with no front suspension under the BGT waiting on parts to arrive. Hey, it might me noteworthy to those supporting Grade 8 hardware that everything that came off this car so far has been just Grade 5 or under fasteners. Apparently the factory saw no need for Grade 8 fasteners anywhere
I think we already discussed that Gerry!! If I remember correctly, we all agreed that it should be grade 5 because they tend to bend before they break!! Anyway, I hope you survive the storm!!
Bigger isn't always better. You had better stick with what the factory did. After all they held up this long didn't they.
Absolutly, right, Tom, I have no intention on changing anything to Grade 8. I am, however replacing everything in the front suspension with new Grade 5 bolts with nylock nuts. I found several loose bolts upon dissassembly where lockwasher had failed to keep things tight
I talked to a man once (can't remember his name, sadly, but he has written books about this) who lived near Abingdon for years and was an MG enthusiast. He would hang around the factory and got to know the people there very well. He told me that they would shut down the assembly line because they ran out of screws, bolts, washers, nuts, etc. and then they would send someone to the local hardware store to pick up enough of the missing items to finish the day's run! He had a wealth of those stories. In Detroit, if they ever had to shut down an assembly line, 50 people would be fired within an hour! So the parts are mainly common hardware items - whatever was cheapest! AL Bradley
