Thread below got me thinking about good mods vs. bad mods. Some are acceptable or even desirable, while others make you walk away shaking your head. So what's yer ideas of good and bad?
In no particular order, and by no means complete, here's mine:
I think pretty much any carb choice is better than a ZS.
I think electronic ignitions are worth their weight in gold.
I don't understand why anyone would want to hassle with positive ground if an alternative is readily available.
Better alternators are good.
Putting a proper grille in the fishmouth is fine.
Almost any period accessory is really, really cool.
Putting a CB crossmember in a RBB to bring it down to where it belongs does wonders for them.
Exhausts die, put one you like on.

Bad mods, for me, are ones that entail cutting up the car or in some way doing something that can't be undone. Not always bad, but the owner needs to REALLY think it through. Just hacking out the rear bulkhead for speakers is, in my opinion, laziness... Someone didn't want to think of a GOOD place for them.
And I personally don't think Bs look right without the chrome strip down the side. No offense to anyone, just my opinion. I know what it's worth.

I could not agree more. period anything looks great on a B. I don't care for the chrome removal, but have seen a couple done that way with the stick on strips that looked OK. A B just needs something down the side, although I never did like the factory strips. Wires look great. Mags look great, too, as long as they do not look like the belong on a ricermobile.

My interior kit from Prestige has nice pockets sewn here and there, since my 70 does not have a glove box or center console, I'm sure they will be useful and they don't look out of place. I also chose leather, a nice mod I think! I too will probably also switch over to petronix at some point. My 70 had a full rear bumper and chrome grill, I switched them back. The split bumper is very cool, I like the chrome grill better, but I though it better to switch back to the "black hole". I also put on a spin off oil filter.

I too dig period mods, I would love to put a badge bar and one, maybe two lucas driving lights.

Most of the mods I will make are for performance and everyday usability and nothing unreversable. I kind of like the car the way it is...

I am with you on this as well. I personally don't think you can improve on the look and design of an MGB. After all it was in production for 18 years with the same basic look, and there were 500,000 of them sold. That in itself says something. I do however fell that they can be muchly improved in the preformance area. For sure in the later RB models. There are many mods that can be done to the stock power train to increase preformance damatically. This day and time 65HP will get you in serious trouble when driving daily in heavy traffic. The series B motor is very capable of producing 150 streetable HP.

fan mod, alternator upgrade, quality radio ( I still have the BMC labeled AM one), zip down rear window on the top, bigger fuse block, serious two tone horns that actually sound like a sports car, screen mesh to keep the bugs out of the heater and most $ efficient performance mods. Think I need to talk to Tom about the last one.

Would Sebring Accesories fall into the catagory of period modification?
I probably wouldn't put them on my GT... I was just wondering if Sebring valances were considered an acceptable "classic modification".
There than Spokes, Rostyles and the '80 LE wheels... are there any other styles that are acceptable? (I'll keep my rostyles, thank you very much.)
Maybe I should consider a change, since I had a female co-worker ask if I owned the "cute red kharman ghia".
