enigmas

Stu, what is the exact difference between the ZA & ZB front quarter vents. (I have read that the pivot point for the vent is in a different position for the ZB? If so, how do you identify the difference?)

I'm still looking for a set of front quarter-vent seals and believe my ZB was fitted with ZA quarter vents at some time? (They appear the same as a set from a wolseley 4/44..of which I have a set)

Does Metro not make the seals for the ZB?

The pivot knuckle for the quarter light is in a different position on the ZA.
Other than that I believe that they are dimensionally the same.

Could someone who has a ZA and/or a ZB, post the position of the pivot-knuckle from the top of the frame so that the data can be used for reference purposes.

When I had Metro make the mould sets for ZA and ZB, I had to send them the very best original sets I had.
For those that may not know...eBay seller dodgeboy must be a direct outlet for Metro Rubber. I remembered this when I saw that seller-ID in that eBay auction.

aussie ZB...thanks for pointing out that ZAs and ZBs have some differences.

enigmas...on the ZB, the center of the upper pivot is ~7-1/2" from the top. On the ZA (which I don't have to measure), the distance is shorter (from memory...at least 2" shorter) because that pivot-point is much higher. On the rubber pieces, there is a relief section. If I also remember correctly, the lower pivot point is further forward.
My guess is the designer for the ZB vent wings must have changed the position because the ZA's pivot points must have been seen as causing undue stress on the upper pivot contact points.

Jeffrey...maybe you missed the info in an earlier thread:
"Finally found this place...have Z-spares to share".
You ought to contact that seller dodgeboy, to ask if he can hook you up with a ZB set.
If you go to that thread...the weblinks to the companies are clickable...
They may be retiring the ZA vent rubber, which is why it says "closeout" and why I thought it was something to point out here. You know how they say: "When they're gone...they're gone."

Vent Window Rubber (front doors):
You can get the main sections from where I had the moulds made:
Metro Rubber

ZA Vent Window Rubber (R & L) Set: P/N WR 6500 $142
(found under years 55 & 56 for MG)
ZB Vent Window Rubber (R & L) Set: P/N WR 6501 $142
(found under years 57 & 58 for MG)

Note: These sets above are the moulded complex main sections of the vent rubber.
The balance of all rubber I had reproduced came from extrusion dies I had made.
I had all extrusion dies made at: Wefco Rubber
Wefco used to be in Santa Monica, but now appears to have moved to Canoga Park.

The second rubber section for each vent window is a simple extrusion, which must be cut and fit (and bonded top and bottom to the main rubbers' ends) in the vent window's side of the chrome channel that separates the vent window from the roll-up window. I believe that extruded vertical strip (sold by the foot) is P/N: 1303 A
-------------------
Fixed Window Rubber (rear doors):
Another extrusion is for the curved section of the rear doors' fixed window. It is P/N: 1304 A
The vertical section, which fits in the chrome channel, typically survives. An appropriate cross-section can be selected from the 1st section (Outside Base Corners Radial) on this page:
U-Channel
-------------------
* I strongly suggest that extrusions be bought in cooperative-group fashion, as there will likely be a minimum length run required. When I paid for the moulds and extrusion dies, I bought enough sets/lengths so that when I ran out...I believe I might have broken-even. The only profit I made was having the hope that it would help keep water and whistling air out of Magnettes.
Cheers

Bunch of other stuff on "dodgeboy" under "other".
Looks like all the rubber for Singer - 50ish, some MGY, TR3, etc.
Riley pedal pads.
And those Duesenberg LeBaron windshield post pads we all need!
