Come on over party at my garage! I ended up buying a used 100amp 110V Century MIG. It has variable voltage and wire speed. It also comes with a new full bottle, regulators for gas and a small cart. The PO also gave me more wire (there is a huge spool in there already) and a whole bunch of tips. I got the whole deal for $275.
He fired it up and we welded some scraps in his garage. Fun fun. Happy Happy! He told me, with a MIG you'll have lots of friends! lol!
I went to HF and bought the self dimming helmet, gloves and a bunch of clamps.
Now I need to run a 20A line to my garage. What gague romex do I need?
So I'm sure I'll be back with loads of questions, he didn't have the manual. Any other advice would be well appreciated. Thanks in advance!
So now if you see strange lights in the northern sky, it's not the northern lights, it's me melting sh!t. Wish me luck!

Hi John.
20 Amps needs #12 wire. Check that the receptacle is rated fro 20 Amps.
When the MIG is welding right it sounds like Canadian bacon frying. Wish it smelled as good!
Jim
Does this mean that you'll be welding your B back together yourself? Hope so.

hee hee...I'll be right over ;)
Can't wait to see it in action!
Way to go John!!
Looking forward to the pictures and learning from your questions.
Paul
Jim,
Thanks! I have a roll already left over from when I finished the basement.
Saul,
Come on over, bring a helmet! lol!
I saw your dad's TD tub today as well as the fenders up at Coveland, when I went up there to pick up some POR-15. It looked incredible!
Hi John
Take Jim's advice and make sure you get a 20 amp wall outlet, they are not
the same as your regular outlets. You don't want to have any more resistance than you have too, also if you have to use a drop cord anytime
use the shortest and largest gauge you can get. A 10/3 yellow jacket brand
is the best. Speak from experience tried using a orange 14/3 once, talk about power loss it was amazing . Good luck you only get better as you go.

All Right. Way to Go. Just remember when you're welding sheet metal the key is to work slowly and let things cool down. Sheet metal has a way of warping when you get it too hot. If you weld spots and then go back and fill in you will have a nicer finished product. And ya it does sound like bacon, when things are going good.
Right On! You can do it.
I think you fell into a great deal. Having a reasonable quality welder with a bunch of stuff tossed in AAND having the guy play with you a for a bit was priceless. it gives you a bit of confidence.
Oh my God!!!! Moore's mating service!!! 2 for the price of 1.
John, A suggestion, go around to a few body shops and see if you can scrounge some damaged body panels. Great material to practice on! Try to not breathe the fumes from the welding. It is best to weld only a small bit then move a few inches away and weld a little then keep on jumping around till the weld is done. This will keep the heat from warping the panels. I bought a flanger that goes on my air chisel and it works well for joining two panels.
A bit of practice and you will see good results. The pride of a job done well will be better than when you did the interior.
You should get yourself a good resperator. I use one for all welding and grinding. The arc acts as a catyilist to make lovely things like ozone and phosgene to name a couple.
Geez Gary, I don't think that is what Carl was trying to say! lol!
I'll be right over with the OSH!
Good for you John!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi: John, Good luck with the welding, Just dont turn the b, into a c lol
Ron
Congratulations John, you are going to have fun now. And you won't believe all the things you will find to fix with that welder. I fixed the christmas tree stand last year with mine. :)
Thanks guys! I hope to get over to homey depot today, to get my 20 line run and buy some steel to play with.
Good for you John. Sounds like you made a good deal. Have fun.
John- Wow, excellent find! Congrats and enjoy your new welder. So when does YOUR LBC shop open? :)

I have a century welder too. It has been a very good welder with no
problems at all. You got a real good deal too. I paid about 100 more
for mine new. Hope to see your results soon!
John, on the wire for your outlet: there ain't no such thing as too big. If 12 will work, 10 is better, and don't frown at 8. The bigger the wire, the less worry about overload. I have single ought from the power pole to the garage main breaker, 6 gauge from a 50 amp breaker to the two 220 v outlets, and 10 ga. to the 110 outlets (20 amp breaker). Have fun!
