Is there a difference between the doors used on the GT -vs- the roadster? The vent frames are different, of course, but other than that could a roadster door be used on the GT?

yes (difference), but i can't remember what the exact differences were. no, can't use without modifying a bit.
NO DIFFERENCE IN DOORS!!!
Difference is in vent window & the trim that runs along the top of door...you can use any MGB door on any MGB car....only differences in doors is the difference caused by year models! In fact, Jerri's GT has a roadster door on the driver side because hers had the crack of doom!
Well H*ll! You mean I've past up good GT parts cars because I was told the doors were different??? I even looked in the Moss book and saw the numbers were different, but now that you said that Tony, the skins listed by Moss use the exact same part number, so they must be the same!
A little bit more knowledge to store now!
Only thing I had to do was make sure the holes for the rivets that held the door top moulding aligned..think I had to redrill a couple
Plus, the vent window frames are available separately for a reasonable price, unlike the roadster vent frames.
Wray, Are you looking for a pair of roadster vent frames? I have some.
Thanks,
Chris Tyler
Chris, not right at this moment, thanks. When I was doing the roadster I wanted to get the scratches out of the vent window frames, replacing them meant buying the whole assembly at close to $400 each. The GT frames are still available new for $70 each.
So, when I get to that point on the GT I'll decide. The frames aren't in as bad a shape as the roadster's were. It's a lot of work getting the scratches out.
Getting the scratches out? A lot of elbow grease, sanding, and using several different grades of Scotchbrite pads. Then buffing until you drop.
I am beginning to think those scratches are more like marks of distinction, and should be left to show that my car actually ran on the road, and had a life.
Thanks. You have been influencial. :)
It took a lot of time, at the shop of a metal guy who does amazing stuff. He finally looked up the specs on the metal and figured out how to work it. If I'd had to pay for his time it would have been cheaper to buy two new whole assemblies. He does all our custom marine work. His last piece of art was a mount for a satellite TV dome we put on a $1.5 mil yacht. The owner estatic when he saw it.
Just for grins sometime, take an old frame and work on getting the scratches out.
There is a small difference in the Roadster and GT doors. The Roadster door has a little tab at the very back, top part of the skin--about 3/4" square. GT doors don't have this tab. You can put a GT door on a roadster and it will work (a purist would weld a piece in), but not a roadster door on a GT without cutting off this tab.

Carl, thanks for that info. The brain trust comes through again. I'll cipher on that. GT doors in this area are not easy to come by, roadster doors are.
carl, but I've interchanged the doors for years without any problems! &, never cut off or welded on the little tab....GT to roadster & reverse, they seem to work fine...don't believe the little tab you're talking about affects fit or operation except for that little rubber button that's always missing on GT's anyway (& only a 100-point concours judge would find it!)
