Was backing the B into the garage and looking back wards, thought the door was closed but it swung open and made contact with my light pole, bent up the fender a bit, not too bad really, but threw my door alignment way out of wack.

Pulled the door off to assess damage and the only noticeable out of palce bend was the upper portion of the upper hinge mount on the body side, which was bent in a bit, with a noticable crease, which should give me a high door alignment when trying to close the door, right? Well, door was low when trying to close. Bad enough that the only way I could get it high enough, even after moving lower door side mount to far out position, I had to add 4 washers behind the body side mount on the lower mount. Only was to really assess damage is to get the fender off and go from there, which after getting it almost all unbolted, even the two bolts under the dash I realized the windshield has to come off to get the fender off, so scratch that. I got it to where i can close the door and all, but would like to find where the "actual" damage is.

Has anyone had this kind of damage and what did you find. Car will be getting a future resto, but would like to deal with it now if possible.

thanks.

Yeah, but it was a bug eye and a customer's car. Made me want to throw up. I got to hire a shop to fix the A pillar and the door.

Yep...did that to my 1978 MGB...fresh out of the paint shoppe about 1988.

Sprung the hinges, dinged up the left front wing.

Taught me a lesson.

You aren't the first and you won't be the last. I've been spared from this one so far, fortunately.

Haha, oh the memories. Not laughing at you but my stupid self about 15 years ago or so. Me and a cousin took out the moms car without asking. Went to a friends house and was leaving late at night. Good idea fairy says, " lets push the car out of the driveway so noone will hear us". We did. I was in the front drivers seat whlie the car rolled silently down the drive backwards and then,..........CRUNTCH!!! My door caught the front of an old thunderbird car and the door was touching the front bumper. We tied it snug to the bumper and drove it home. Ummmmm yea, my mom was pissed. So much fun, haha. Yes.....Dependable Auto Transport did this to mine taking it off the car hauler. They gave me $50 and it cost me about $2000 to repair.

WHAT!! How in the $%# did they justify $50. They walk around those vehicles with a damn microscope almost for a pre haul inspection. At least my transport did. I cant imagine how mad you must have been. Mikek

Youre not the first, believe me, I don't know why so many b owners do this, but they do, it might have something to do with it being a convertible and not ever having any metal above your head. I bet hardly any GT owners have done this!
You may have to replace the hinges and get the doo
r slots back in place, this can also twist the a-pillar if down badly enhough!
Start with hinges, loosen them and see if adjusting th will give you the desired angle needed for proper door alignment!

I admit, I've done this too!! But not too badly!

Brought back memories-I did this to a very nice '49 Ford Tudor back in the day (My high school days.) Very sick at the time-bought a door at the junk yard but things were never right again what with no money to fix.

That's next on my list to fix. The A piller in my B is a mess from just such a move by the PO.

I have the new A-Piller from the roadster factory, this is the job that keeps me up at night. if its not Aligned right the door will never close properly.

If its right it will be clear sailing. I'll be posing pics on the process as I go probably April or May
