The header on my 70b does not look very nice, I cleaned and painted it but still not to my satisfaction. What are my choices to make it look better. Dennis70

There is an outfit called Jet-Hot or something similar that does a nice ceramic coating. Their silver finish is very similar to chrome but much more durable.
I dont know to much about ceramic coating, although I am aware of the term. This leads to my second question, what color?? Dennis70
The silver Jet hot coat looks great for about 500 miles then it starts to fade, to a dull silver finish. The Black is rated higher for heat. 2,000 deg to something like 1250 deg for the silver. I just sent my shorty header to a place in Davie, Florida for around $150.00 this includes the extension pipe that came with the header. I purchased my header from a company in Texas,(ebay) wouldn't use them for this item again. Header came with very weak welds I could see light threw it. Sent them back and waited 1 month to only have them returned to me with an extra coat of paint to cover the holes. After paying $45.00 more dollars I had them fixed by a welder. Now just today I was able to send them to the Jet Hot coating place. I am going to go with black this time. Should have them back within the week.

if it is old check to see if it will take a bead blasting then hot manifold paint. If it is cracking or rusty...a new one???
Although I have never used the Jet-Hot outfit I understand that it does a good job of both improving the appearance AND holding the heat in the manifolding and flowing gasses.
Aside from the appearance issues it is important to understand that heat, when controlled properly, is your friend. Building and maintaining the correct level of heat in the exhaust system, especially in the areas immediately after the combustion chamber results in more power and better economy. The Jet-Hot stuff acts like a reflector and causes the heat to be kept in the flowing exhaust gasses rather than being absorbed by the iron or steel of the manifold and down pipes and radiated out into the atmosphere. In the olden days racers used to wrap their manifolds and pipes in asbestos to achieve the same thing. Jeggs and others outfits still offer kits to do this for the racer crowd. When I finally get to the point of my winter rebuild I will end up deciding on either the Jet-Hot or a manifold wrap.

I've used a company called High Performance Coatings - they do all the NASCAR stuff. I use the aluminum finish and the headers still look like new aluminum 12 years later. www.hpcoatings.com 1-800-456-4721

wrong thread.
<sigh>
I had my Peco done locally and the outside looks like Jet-hot but the interior was done with Insulcoate and that really cut down the heat escaping from the header. 231 degrees F is as hot as I measured on it with an IF thermometer.
Jack, you might read Peter Burgess's experience with header wraps, not good. Warpage and as I remember crystallized metal.
Thanks, I just did.
Actually I read it a while back and just forgot. I suspect that the wrapping keeps TOO MUCH heat in the metal for longer periods of time. I guess that means no wrap for Jack!

I think that the ceramic coatings are a great option if you can afford them. From everything I have heard they will last quite a while and reduce your under hood temperatures somewhat.
That being said, if all you are trying to do is clean up the look of your engine bay you might want a less expensive option. I don’t know if you already tried a high temperature exhaust manifold paint but there are a range of options available, based on price and maximum temperature limit.
If you go to the Eastwood Company website they offer several high temp exhaust manifold paints. The one below sells for about $25.

They also offer a paint on ceramic product that cures from the exhaust heat for about $30.

I’m sure there are other products out there for coating exhaust manifolds and I think you can spend as much or as little as you want.
