The 3.4L V6 has one heater hose coming off of the water pump and the second coming off of the engine block. Does anyone know which hose should have the heater valve? I currently have an inline heater valve, which looks like it works, installed in the hose that comes off of the water pump. The problem is that I seem to have lots of heat coming from the heater no matter if the valve is open or closed. I can't tell any difference even if I check with a laser thermometer before and after the valve.
I wonder if the hot water circulates from the engine block to the heater through the hose without the valve, heats up the heater core, and then stops at the closed valve that is in the hose leading to the water pump. Would this keep the heater core hot all the time? I thought I would ask if anyone knows the direction of hot water flow before I try to install the valve in the other hose and see if there is any difference.
This problem wasn't so bad in the winter but I think will become more and more uncomfortable as the weather warms.
Thanks for any insite.
Rich

The hot water from the engine should control the flfow of the hot water into the heater box. Return should go back to the water pump, which is what makes it circulate.
The water circulates from the top of the engine through the heater core and then connects to a suction port on the water pump. I would be inclined to put the valve in the hose from the top of the engine, but in theory what you've done should work. For some reason, your valve is not stopping the flow of coolant completely. Not knowing what valve you have, perhaps it's installed backwards.

Wayne,
You just might have hit the nail on the head. I will check as soon as possible but it seems likely since I thought the water flowed in the other direction. I hope you are right because it is much easier to change the valve direction then to move it do the other hose.
In any case thanks for taking the time to reply.

We place the heater valve off the waterpump side of the motor. No issues.
