MGB: Heater Water control Valve

Well, I've FINALLY gotten the water control valve removed from my 79 'B (top bolt was frozen solid and sheared off in the block). Now, however, I do not recall how exactly, the cable attaches to the darn thing; I know it comes in and is held down by the bracket towards the top, but then I assume it must then go down and be held in place by a bolt with a hole in it and then locked in place by a nut.

Does that sound about right? Of course, I can't seem to find that bolt anywhere...

That's called a "cable stop". You may can find one at a local hardware store....

Where can I get a new and better heater control valve for my early 1974 MGB? The replacement that I bought from Moss a couple of years ago is leaking, and I was told by a friend that a better valve is available. Thanks. Janken87

I got mine from my mechanic, but I know that he gets his stuff from Moss. Personally, I prefer VictoriaBritish as I find them cheaper and their catalog is much easier to search online.

I suggest that you post this as a separate and new post as more people will see it.

Just do a search. LOTS of input to fixing the problem.
VB is no better and sometimes worse than Moss IMHO....albeit sometimes price is a consideration. They get 80%+ from Moss or Moss suppliers FWIW with no knowledgeable tech support in house.

Paul,
I think I'm one of the few members who seem to be satisfied with the original type
heater valve. I've only needed two OE style heater valves in six years of
owning Ruby. One I bought from VB lasted five years, and the new replacement
I got from Gordon at The BHive. All good info on the upgrades, but back to
your original request. If you are missing parts to connect the cable, I believe
I have some from the old valve. Let me know.

Just letting folks do what they wish about heater valves, etc. The ingenuity of owners is limitless, and when they share their ingenuity with the rest of us, it broadens the range of possible solutions that are effective and appropriate.
