Hi guys,
I'm not too sure if you've seen my previous post several weeks ago
But I've been restoring a 67 Austin Healey Sprite for my father's 60th birthday.
http://www.hells-oui.com/index.php?s=chop+shop
I know this is a long shot.
I'm almost finished, and I need some help.
The motor is turning over, she's getting spark, and I adjusted the timing to the best of my knowledge.
The fuel pump works, but I don't think she's getting enough fuel at the carbs. (It may be the floats)
If anyone lives in the Boston area who could come by to take a look or give me a hand, I would greatly appreciate it.
His birthday is this weekend and I would like to be able to deliver it to him by Sunday.
Thanks!
- Rob

Almost close enough, but not quite :(
Have you tried spraying some starter fluid directly into the carb to see if she starts at all? Or pull a plug and see if she's getting any fuel at all when you crank.
All I got my father for his 60th was an extra helping of Jello :)
check that your points are set right, good condensor. The problem has to be with your timing. When I was first starting mine I wasnt even getting fuel to one of my carbs and she startes when I finally got all my ignition problems fixed. Also, since you did a complete rebuild on those carbs, did you set them correctly?
I am in Charlton MA and could possibly help. Where are you located?
Hey guys,
Thanks for all the replies.
Jim, I'm in South Boston.
If you have a chance drop me a line.

Thanks again guys!

Rob
Can I adopt you?
My 60th birthday's 3 years away, so you wouldn't be so burdened with time constraints!
You're a good son, cherish the times you can spend with your Dad, time passes much too quickly & before you know it, you're folks are gone.
My nephew lives in your area, but I'm WAY down South...I wish I could swing by & lend a hand...
All I can offer from the left coast is a " well done" and Good wishes......................!!! Hope all works out well for his birthday. Post some pics !!
Happy B Day, J.R.
Hey guys,
Thanks for all the kind comments again.
I think getting it done by this Saturday is kind of a pipe dream at this point.
I guess it will have to be a little late.
Here's the link to the restoration.

Hi Rob
I just wanted to say that you've done a fantastic job on the Sprite. I'm sure your father is very proud of you and will definitely enjoy the car. Good luck!
Rob,
Appreciate your predicament ... have you viewed the John Twist videos regarding setting your SU carbs? There is also a lot of information out on the web to help walk you through the process. You can find the video's here: University Motors
Also, my local mechanic was very explicit when he told me to make sure everything is absolutely correct on the ignition side of the engine (plugs, wires, compression, timing, etc.) before moving over to the carbs. Get a good manual (Haynes has one for both the car and the carbs) and give it a go. Wish I was closer but fear it would end up with two guys staring at it instead of just one!
Best of luck and a very Happy Birthday to your Dad!
Cheers
Geoff
Hey guys,
She's alive!
Thank you for all the help.
I ended up adjusting the point set in the distributor, rotated to the TDC.
She gave out a few coughs, and it was close.
Slowed the timing just a hair, and she started to sputter and run!
Stay tuned for more to come!

Rob,
PLEASE post photos of the "reveal" for all of us to enjoy !!! We're all rooting for you !!!
I probably owe my dad a few restorations...with as many broken cars I've brought to him over the years.(:P)
Nice job! Looking forward to a full report on the big day!
Hi guys,
Thanks again for all the support.
I'm still sorting some things out.
The delivery date is Oct 9th!
Until then, here's a link to a photobook documenting the restoration.
Enjoy!

A monumental job and so many memories and friends made in the process! For about $25 Kodakgallery.com will put the whole photo journey into a glossy hardback book. Just saying...
Congratulations Rob. >:D<
A truly fantastic job showing a good deal of inventiveness, talent and grit along the way. :)-D
Your dad I'm sure is very proud and appreciative, as he should be.
BTW, my 60th isn't very far off if you're looking to lay one of these on another appreciative old fogey (:D :D
Just kidding.............a big atta boy from me. Well done.
