I have found a second shop to road force balance my B. Three of the four wheels are bent and will not balance. The manager tried to 'true and spin' the tires to the wheels and that helped a little but did not cure the shake. I went on the search for wheels. I really like Hap's superlites. I found a shop in so ca that has rostyles that are sand blasted and repainted. But they are rostyles and it seems balancing is a problem for a lot of folks, not just me. Of course the rostyles are lot less expensive-but what do you do. Bite the bullet and spend the bucks for new, or try the stock mg wheel again?
Thanks
Paul

back off and spend the time. instead of jumoing soon and ...

USE CRAIGS LIST (opps) and ebay. in general you pay $100-150 each for mags. they will then need to be bead basted and inspected for cracking before using. then paint as you wish,

Mac in my neck of the woods the craigs list wheels are typically for pu and 4wd rigs in the 15 and 16 inch range. A 14 that would fit the B would be tough to find, and the blasted painted rostyles are only 375.
Slowing down is not a bad idea tho as it's a lot of money. I guess I am concerned about what driving with the wobble is doing to my suspension in the long run.

I'm using performance superlite , minilite replicas. I wanted to stay with MG tradition.

There will be a rep' in America.
They look 1000% better than the rostyles and give the whole car a face lift. The polished rims are very nice as well. A variety of sizes. I'm using 15 by 6 with 195 by 60 tyres. It's a V8 hence the extra rubber.

I have since learned about Dayton wire wheels. The best there is, can be used with tubeless tyres. Stainless steel spokes and triple chromed rims. As soon as my current set of tyres start to wear I'm going to get some. Their bolt on to spin on adapter (scroll down a bit) makes the wheels so strong you can use them with V8's no problem at all, and there are no splines to ever wear out.

Check in the library for wheels from other cars that will fit. I put a set of Datsun Z car wheels on the '79 and really like the look. There are options other than large $'s and Rostyles.

I was going to suggest the Datsun wheels myself, I picked up a set to put on mine but for the moment I plan to put the set of Eneki wheels that were on the last car I picked up.

Here is a link to the Datsun wheels I picked out to put on mine, it will take me a bit of time to get them into the shape that GMDad has but I think they look fabulous.

Or look for something like this. Not this size (though they would probably look nice on my MGA).

Try a different shop with a different wheel balancer. Maybe find one that can balance the wheels on the car. That can help accomodate for any concentricity issues. Or bring a front wheel hub into the tire dealer and a set of 4 lug nuts. They can then mount the hub on the balancer and bolt each wheel to it. That will give them a "true center" for each wheel rather than trying to use that hole that's punched in the rough center of the wheel.

Or save all the hassle and just order a new set. Then you're done with this mess for good! Your wheel balance shouldn't affect your driving habits. That's bad maintenance and unsafe. Don't become a DPO! ;) Fix the problem rather than avoid the symptoms! Remember that buying used wheels may leave you in the same situation with no recourse and less money in your pockets!

Have you checked your front suspension for any odd? Maybe around the lower king pin where the bolt goes through? Id check the suspension out before you go buying ....

I had problems with the old rostyle wheels, bought a set of new wheels from Hap and they solved all my vibration problems. I'd do it again.

Michelle, I have those exact wheels. When I got them they were in pretty cruddy shape after sitting in a junkyard for who knows how long. I found a local polishing shop (Salinas, CA) that made them shine almost as much as GMDad's wheels, for about $100 for the set of 4. Definitely the way to go, and they look like they belong on the B.

Paul - As you've seen, the rostyles can't always be balanced successfully. One thing you can do that actually does make a driveability difference is to swap the front with the back wheels. All you're doing is moving the problem from one end to the other, true, but with the best-balanced tires on the front the vibration does go down tremendously.

Thanks all. This last shop did try to balance with the lug nut holes but their adapter would not work with the rostyle pattern. No one up here can balance wheels on the car. I have swapped back to front. The two worst are on the back. Datsun wheels are interesting. And I do like Hap's superlites.
And Jeff, that was exactly my concern-buying more of the same problem!!
