They just retrofitted 70's bumpers on an earlier car. On a 70 the lic. plate should be between the bumpers not up high like it is in the photos. Looks kind of funny to me, like it has a wedgie! Easy fix, either way, move the plate down or replace with the correct bumper. BTW the lic plate lights won't shine on the plate up there...

It also has the wrong over-riders for the split bumpers, the licence plate lights shouldn't be on the over-riders, they should hidden in the ends of the bumpers. I guess that's the only way to get chrome over-riders on '70 bumpers if you don't want the rubber bit on the over-rider.

OK, I give up.....WHY? A needy '70 owner would have probably paid a decent price for those bumpers...

My '69 had splits!!! I know, I know!!! But it did, and I owned it in '72!!!

How much you figger Joe????

The guy claims to have spent $30k on the restoration. From the looks of it, he got taken. For that kind of money, I would expect a more accurate restoration. Its not like there isn't any documentation on what an original '67 looked like.

Is that duct tape on the back of the drivers seat?

I don't know what they'd be worth, but I'll bet Tony does! :-)
Since they aren't available new, they'd certainly be worth more than a standard bumper...

I've shown on this year's MG 2003 site a couple of times. A couple of years ago I ran across a guy who had spent a mint restoring a B into an '80 LE. I know, that can't be done, but he didn't know it and even the paint an wheels were wrong. No way will he ever get out of it what he had spent on parts at that point. he was the qintessential green horn.

You are right there!! :o)

Summer, we have 'stagecoach'!! Remember when you loaned me your truck and you said 'I don't know if you can drive a 5 speed'???? What a loser!!

Jul 07, 2003 18:54:41
Chuck Cougill

I don't remember that at all. I think I said I know you can drive a five speed. I didn't know you could drive a stagecoach though

Damn!! I am Canadian!! Of course I can, a stagecoach, a dogsled or a 'cast of British submarine'!@!!

What a joke! & there are actually ____s who would bid on it as a correctly restored car...there's more wrong with it than the bumpers...but, last time I critiqued a car on here all hell broke loose...all I'll say is maximize the photos & look closely at the "ground up" restoration...&, its gonna require a new paint job to correct some of the things....
....those poor split bumpers! even they've been bastardized!...you can't even get the gas cap off or a hose in to fill it unless you put it in upsode down...&, Jay is a well-known restorer? remind me not to put him on 'theList' recommended mechanics?

Jul 07, 2003 20:45:44

i'd buy it and put a full bumper on the back

exactly joe...

Evan...at the price that sucker is going, I expect concours quality in every way....not replacing the bumpers, redoing the engine compartment, taking body colored paint off stuff that's supposed to be that weird grey plus finding a good steering wheel to replace the one with the JC Whitney plastic wrapping around it! Look closely at the open trunk photo: they've painted over the rubber trunk seal & put a fungy aftermarket vinyl trip piece to replicate late rubber seal around the lip of the trunk itself...look at how the heater box is painted & see that weird little piece of aftermarket trim all way around the fender opening....that's probably a sewwt running car, & its done nicely...but, way up over $10,000? I think not....there's $2000 of work to make that 'ground up restoration' the same quality as Kim's car!

i hear ya Tony. i didn't notice those things and i'd take your word on a B any day. I guess he should have been happy with that 10, took it.. and ran.

Jul 08, 2003 14:10:01
Chuck Cougill

I've seen (and worked on) Kim's car. it is sweet
