Thanks for those who pointed out the Oil Pressure Switch to me. I'm embarrassed to say that since my post I'd found a picture from earlier on that showed it was connected by a metal braided hose (called "oil pipes" in the Bentley Manual..). I've since organized my photo shots into folders that better represent different assemblies and their sequence in the Prep for Hoist Activity.
The attached is highlighted by a white pad behind it; so as to better depict the questionable wire and the point of entry into the motorspace from the fire wall. Ken is holding the questionable "lead" in his right hand. I don't believe this was connected with the current emissions free 18V797 modification. Would somebody hazard a guess?
Thanks again!

Hi Sean,
Did your '75 have the Service Reminder Module on it ? Mine had a wire going to the Service Reminder that entered the cockpit in the same place as you are depicting. It was in a grey sheath if I remember correctly. It reminds of the same wire, but not quite sure.
Chris
Naa... No service reminder when I came into ownership. That's not to say there wasn't one previously on it. Could be just that though. So many mods and sloppy maintenance were done, prior to my ownerhship, that nothing would surprise me at this time. I do remember seeing a picture from somebody (you?) that brought this up..
I'll keep "fishing" and see what others have to say, in the hope that they either confirm what you've suggested or come up with some other wonderful but no longer needed LUCAS accessory!;)
Before my "updates".
See the cable in question. Grey sheath.
Part way through my "update".
Notice the grey sheath wire is gone. I believe this went to the service reminder. Only old steel lines still present.
Chris
Tell us the color of the wire....that'll help..."
Looks like there are two side by side green inside of black jacketed (flat).
Hi Chris;
That lead your picture points out, is coming out of a "verticle face" of the firewall. The lead I've discussed is coming out of a "horizontal face" of the firewall. My lead is just below the heater. Yours you depict shows it farther "down" past the corner or on the vertical face... Am I confusing you? LOL
They're probably green with a pink tracer....which would be to the service reminder Chris mentions above....
My pic shows same metal piping with no "sheath"... Also doesn't show the "yellow box" that must be connected to one time service reminder(?)

'K... I'll do a little minor surgery and cut open the jacket to confirm. In the event that is what it is, I'm going to take it out. I no longer have this "appointment" on this "modified" 18V797...
Thanks Joe!
Sean,
My grey sheath wire that was removed came out of a horizontal surface hole, just in front of the heater motor. The heater box was removed in both pics, so it may appear a little misleading.
Chris
'K Chris;
I guess pictures from two different aspects could've been confusing to me. My "lead" was inside a flat jacket (black) not grey nor "sheathed". I am going to open up the jacket and see if Joe Reed's description of "green w/ pink tracer" fits. If it does, I will remove this as it was originally intended for the "service reminder" that I don't have installed. If it doesn't, I'll be baaaack!
Thanks for your help; and sorry for the confusion!
Sean
On my 1975 US specs B, there was no service reminder fitted. I think this moduels were introduced later.
As I got the car from Alabama many years ago, it was bne stock. There also was no wire routed throug this rubber gourmet on the firewall. It only was used for the windshield washer hose.
I had the same on my (also US specs) 71 Roadster as on the 73 GT.
Sean, if you pull the glovebox internal moulding (easy job without tking the door off), you will have excess to this area from the passenger side of your car underneath the dash and get an idea how creative a PO might have been...

Guten Tag in Veirsen;
I spent 12 years over there!
A hanging wire is not a "creative" idea... To me it kind of symbolizes the care and the cumulative shortcuts that brought the car to its present condition. LAZY ownership!

Hi Joe;
I split the flat jacket (black) that inside had two leads. One was green, the other a lighter green with a white "trace" on it. Would that have been to the Service reminder?
Thanks for your responses to this.
Sean
Sean,
You may want to take a look at this website if you have not. It is a treasure trove of assistance. Many of us took the prints to Kinko's or someplace and had them printed pretty large and laminated. I have to use page 20, you may or may not have the same vintage of wiring as I .
Green and Green/pink went to the service reminder. (the white may actually be pink if you open the sheath back several inches)

Hi Chris;
Actually I've had that Wiring Diagram for quite some time. I installed halogens last fall after querying "Wiring Diagrams for MGB" through Google. What I got was Dan Astley's "on line" book. Much of it I have here on my HD. What I managed to "copy" or print, I've found useful in other subjects, such as distributor orientation, tuning ect... One day I'll buy the actual book! There is a lot that he discusses that most of us don't have, unless we have the actual book...
I looked at it (on page 18), from his diagrams and I see no service reminder in his diagram for the 75-76 years for this "B". Matter of fact, I don't see anything, including the legend at the bottom, that shows a combination of green & pink... I do see green and white, but not to a service reminder.

Sheet 19 & 20, if you have the seat belt reminder buzzer/lamp"
Orient me to the portion of these diagrams. I can only trace the lead from the hazard switch that looks like the wire you speak of runs to ground on page 20...
Will be right back, gotta take sweetheart to the grocery...
Sean
Just left of center of drawing, between the ign. coil and the ign. switch, sitting directly below anti-run on valve. Sorry, I have no way to cut/paste a portion of the drawing.
