MGB: HIF4 Idle Screws

Hi Everyone,

I was adjusting my HIF4 carbs this weekend and discovered that the idle screws, and the fast idle screws, are sripped and bent and otherwise in bad shape.

The problem is that I cannot find replacments. The standard machine screw that you can buy in a typical hardware store has bigger threads.

Any advice on where I can find fine-threaded machine screws for the idle and fast idle adjustment on my HIF4's? And the nuts. Thanks very much. Bill.

This is what was recommended to me. I have not yet installed them.

Go to Moss Motors, the MGA catalog and get the idle screws for the MGA AND the springs- this gets rid of the stupid locking nut and makes adjustments much easier. This was recommended by another member on this site.

Ralph,

Thanks! I just went to Moss and ordered 4 screws for my HIF4s (the idle screws and the fast idle screws are identical), and 4 springs which are shown for the HS-4 carbs. THANKS for the advice about the springs. The stupid locking nut was what started me on this process; I could not get the idle screws to stay set!

I've got that spring/screw setup on most of my LBCs. That's the way to go!
