I have dissembled my HIF carbs on my '73 B. Have a question about he floats:
One of the floats has liquid in it, assuming it's fuel; the other is empty.
Does the liquid in the float mean I have a hole in it?

Robert,
The float is leaking for sure and it has to be gas inside of it. It may be leaking at the seam or have a pin hole somwhere. I am not aware of anything that can be done other than buying a replacement. I have known people who try to seal them but have not done so successfully. It looks like you found the reason for your fuel delivery problem.
Cheers,
Rob
Yup, its leaking. Don't try to patch, you will just change the weight of it, resulting in an inacurate fuel level, even if it is set right. Replace it. I would replace the other too. After all, they probably are the same age. You do not want to repeat this for the other carb. down the road.
Could be beer but I doubt it. Replace it, might as well do the other one too and keep the old as a spare.

So Moss lists these for about $27 each (front 373-610 and rear 373-615). Is that an OK price? Any othe cheaper sources for a very cheap man?
Try Zak Macky at Engel Imports in Kalamazoo, Mi. Zak knows his MG stuff.
Or one of the resident Moss suppliers on the forum, Chris or Tony for a discount under the Moss price.
RobS.
edit; BTW, I believe they are different for front and rear on the HIFs. make sure you specify.
Yeah... thought of Chris, but I want these delivered next-day. Guess I'll go with Moss directly.
Engel has next day as well check the prices for each. Is this your only transportation? Certainly you can get around on City transport for a couple days. Probably cheaper than next day delivery but whatever floats your carbs.

Don’t know the price, but I was going to suggest Joe Curto. I bought mine a while back from Moss, but I was just starting on this forum so I did not ask here. The Moss ones worked fine, but like you, I rather have spent less.
And yes, there is a front and back to these floats.
most likely. either way it needs to be replaced. consider doing both at the same time.

do not use email if time is important. call. period.
Yes, call Joe for new ones!!
They really should be replaced in pairs. If you just want to do the one, I do have good/tested used ones that would be half price.
Already ordered from Moss, but called Joe to see if I could get them cheaper or faster. Works out about the same.
Nonetheless.... Joe was a great guy to talk with and I will be calling him for parts in the future. Prefer to deal with the 'local' guy anyway.
Another card for the Rolodex.
Looking on the bright side... the wait for floats gives time for installing door panels and cleaning the engine under the carb area. Also frees me up to troll ebay for cars I coulda bought.
Congrats Robert!! That wasn't so bad was it. Your float is toast and you should get a new/used one. Get a used one from Jimmy H or buy a couple of new ones.
