Years ago I repaired/reveneered the dash and door woodwork of two early '60s Mercedes. I think it was rosewood veneer... very dramatic.
I'd like to fab some panels for the doors (will need the right amount of foam cushion on the backside to hold the latch handle trim in place).
Also the hinged console top and maybe rear shelf, etc.
I've got a big enough piece of 1/4" with some nice figuring (grain pattern).
I'll keep posting.

Very nice! A Rolls-MG look:). I saw a Rolls-Royce on E-bay that had the whole door panels in burlwood. It looked great!

Maybe it was a walnut burl, it sure looked nice.
I guess I could also do the glovebox door.

I made an oak dash panel for a "t-bucket" hot rod that a friend of mine built about 20 years ago. He had me carve the Ford logo in the center of it framed with a walnut oval inlay. Took me forever to get it done, but then it took him longer to finish the T.

I wonder how my B would look in the color scheme he used- pearlescent white with bluish undertones, black interior with honey oak dash and trim. I don't think I can use the chromed 1/4keg on the tail for a gas tank like he did though!

Len,

Please post pictures as you go, or at least of the finished product.

Will post as I go. I have one original door panel and a few trim pieces to make patterns from (carpenter's paper or cardboard). The 1/4" panel is from some project I forget, but it was sold as an underlayment material. On the backside, it kinda looks like cypress and is very hard. I'm gonna stain only enough to deepen the shade (I don't like anything reflecting light off the interior glass, too distracting, especially at night). I like doing as much work as possible in lacquer, but this job calls for a bulletproof finish, so it'll be Minwax polyurethane as a minimum, and more likely Minwax Spar Urethane. The finish won't be "flooded" on, but rather two coats brush, finish coat spray. That satifies the requirement for sealing, and'll let some of the grain's texture show through.
