The float chamber on my front HS4 is a little wobbly, but I can't figure out how to tighten it up. Looks like I need to get to bolt #29, right? If so, where is it? I couldn't see it and didn't feel it.

Thanks,
michael

Michael, you'll get more informed responses if you can define "a little wobbly" with more detail.

The float chamber doesn't attach rigidly to the carb body. Item 27 on the diagram is a rubber grommet that allows the float bowl to have a bit of side-to-side movement.

Michael,

there is a special molded rubber insert for the carb body used on the MGB HS4 carbs. When it has become aged, the float chambers become lose. It is not shown on the pic and I'd have a look upon the carb body page.
Take care, these inserts are handed!

As I recall, there is also a small pin on the body of the carb that keeps the float chamber from over-rotating.

Michael, I think the hard rubber grommet is item 27 on the picture above.

All of the above is correct.

It is possible, but you have to be fairly handy with your fingers, to replace the grommet without removing the carb.

Remove the Phillips screw that secures the member connecting the choke linkage to the bottom of the jet.

Take care to not lose the tiny ferrell between the screw and the member.

Rotate the linkage and lift the member out of the way as best you can.

Disconnect the fuel lines going into the float chamber top.

Use a 7/16" open end wrench to undo the bolt that goes through the carb body and screws into the float bowl.

Withdraw the bolt, along with it will come a small rubber grommet.

On the other side of the carb body the bowl will have been made free except that the bridge hose from the float chamber over to the jet will still be in place. Try to not tug on the hose or move it too far from it's home as it could break or begin leaking after all of this is done.

Between the float body and the carb body is first a weird looking rubber thingy and then a flat weird looking washer.

Withdraw both.

Assembly is in the reverse order.

Jack, Did you just recall that off the top of your head? That's incredible.

To clarify, it the bowl is a little loose, probably wobbles a mm or two, not much more. In my limited experience with carbs (all American carbs thus far) a mm or two can be huge.

The MGB is running nicely, especially with the new air filters so I'm probably just gonna leave her well enough alone for now.

Thanks, all.

Mike, that isn't enough to warrant the effort of replacing the grommet.

Off the top of my head? Yea, but sometimes I can't remember when I was born. I guess if you do some things a thousand times you remember how, but I was born only once and that was pretty traumatic.;)
