The one pictured is not the one for an A-series. Pace setter doesn't have the best reputation for build quality.
Don't know about MG applications, but i've seen more than a couple cracked pace setter manifolds on toyotas
Price is right near average retail for that header. ebay description states that the photo is a sample photo.
i would avoid that auction and buy the same part from somebody that you can talk to so that you can clear up any questions you may have. google PaceSetter Part #70-1042 for retailers.
Alex,
I've had a Pacesetter on my 79 for about 2 years. For the money is a pretty good header for a driver. If you do decide to get it you may want to consider getting the armour coating. I had it put on mine and it still looks good. The price is about average for ebay and still less than VB
It should look something like this:

(this is the guy i bought from really easy to deal with)
Doug
I've had that header on my 76 Midget since the end of summer. I only got to drive with it one for about two months and I loved it. I got mine from the same guy Doug got his from on Ebay. Very nice and easy to work with. I also purchased the matching exhaust because four chrome tailpipes just look bad ass! But I digress. I like Doug would reccomend getting it armour coated. I didn't and the black "shipping" paint that it arrives in lasted about ten minutes before it blistered and peeled right off. Smelt terrible!! ;0
I've had no real issues with either items and I love the way the car sounds.
Louis,
How do you like the muffler with quad tips, I love the looks of it but I don't like a loud exhaust, is it very loud ?
Doug
Doug,
I love it!! At first I was worried that it would be really loud or throaty. I certainly didn't want to sound like one of those punk kids driving a POS tin can with a huge loud tailpipe.
It sounds great. The best way to describe it is it sounds correct to me. It's not real loud or really deep which would be an unnatural sound to me for a car that size. Just a nice smooth nonassuming rumble. From an exhaust that just looks so cool!
To be truthful, I think 4 pipes coming out of a little sports is just too much. 2 maybe, but I'm sticking with 1. What ever rocks your boat though, that's why you own a midget!!!
I've always thought the best exhaust "look" for the Spidget and the B is the classic Abarth or Stebro exhaust. The muffler is a flat oval with one inlet and two exhaust pipes. The outlet pipes exit just under the bumper and are baloney sliced (at an angle, top to bottom) The whole assembly is wrinkle-finish black except the exhaust tips which are chrome.
The Abarth for the Spridget cost $24.95 new. There's an NOS one on ebay today for $225... that seems a lot.
Stebro is still in operation in Canada, making exhausts for expensive Euro cars, but not for LBC's.
you get what you pay for with headers
the one on my sprite was retail 329.00, its a big bore LCB by Maniflow, I would never have bought it at full price, I got a deal at cost
but there are alot better headers than the Pacesetter out there for about 200$
I have a brand new header that I bought from VB that is still in the box that I would sell you for only 120.00 delivered. I am redoing my 79 and I have a lot of parts I don't need anymore. I bought the black header and then I forgot I had it(the car has been at the paint shop for over a year now, but I keep buying parts) and I bought a ceramic coated silver header.
Why a header in the first place? Is it not true that unless you've redone the head, bigger valves and/or port the intake and step up the carbs then fiddling with exhaust flow is pointless and could even be detrimental? My 1098 has a Pacesetter, used to be chrome. The flange thickness doesn't match the intake flange's thickness so getting a good tight fit is troublesome.
I got the header because I bought a weber carb set up, a streetable cam, I head the head reworked with bigger valves and the cylinders bored over .30. I just wish I could get my car back so I can get it back on the rode.
Hey alex?
If you really need a header..... I have an original (used but good) Longbranch header that I'd be willing to part with.......
Michael
