I'm at the Min line on dipstick. How much oil needed to get it to the Max line? 1/2 qt?

Yes....one pint (1/2 quart) should do the trick.

Sam, I think thats correct. I was at the minimum line once and put a little more than a pint in and slightly over-filled it.

Thank you both. I had a feeling that's what it would be.

However.....if your filter looks like this, it may require a little less if the anti-drain valve is not working....

;)

The answer is "has it been sitting all night?" --- if so. ??? because the filter has drained back all the way. Fire it up for a minute, shut down,. wait a couple minutes and check again. You will find the level is now up a fair bit. .Adjust as required at that time.

I only check mine after the car has been sitting for several hours.

Sounds like a two part question Mac. It actually has been sitting two nights. :-) I'm breaking in this engine. I left Sunday and drove about 100 some miles, varying my speed etc etc. I let it sit and checked it before I went to bed and it as below the Min line. I dumped quart of VR1 racing oil in yesterday, started it and let it sit overnight. Today when I got home it was at the Min line so I'm trying to figure how much oil I burned. I've driven a 160 miles and I want to watch my oil consumption.

WOW!!! Are those legal in all fifty states?

I agree that the difference between high and low is a pint, but it's 20 ounces rather than 16, because it's a British pint.

Mac, I'm slow... and I'm having trouble following the logic. If the filter had drained back, wouldn't you be reading high after sitting overnight - when you fired it up, the filter would fill up, and the level in the sump would be lower, not higher - or am I missing something?

Is the Cat filter a joke or is there some improvement to use it? Even though I think its a joke the mythical thought of changing an oil filter to get higher oil pressure numbers makes me want to try it...

I thought the date was April 1 when I made the post. :smoking:

Yes - Rod's got it - an Imperial pint (1/2 quart).

Many units in the old system depend on what is being measured. For example gold and ground beef can both be measured in ounces - but the ounces are different (troy vs avoirdupois). I am told it was the same thing with liquid measures. Canada went with the beer gallon and the U.S. chose the wine gallon. Whether or not the story is true, it certainly fits! :spinning: I suppose that modern synthetic oil should be measured in 128 ounce gallons and cheap dino oil could be in 160 ounce gallons.

But you know....as much as these thing leak oil.....I doubt seriously if 120cc is going to make that much of a difference.

Dang ask a simple question..... First its pints , then its imperial pints, then we're using measuring examples for beef and gold using some French word. Avoirdupois. I haven't heard that in years! I love all the responses. Time for a beer.. Hhmmm let's see how that's measured. Jeez ... Have I had three 10oz oh wait they were pints , no they were long necks and they're 12ounces.. But wait I think I had a Fosters in between what size is that. Where is that 8 pack of Millers 7oz bottles I've been saving..........
