Started out needing a clutch slave cylinder. Decided to replace it and both master cylinders. Then came the pedal box, rebuilt it and refinished it and the servo. Then a new servo seal.....what started out as a quick replace and bleed is now moving into week two.
Was installing the brake master and the fittings were stubborn as heck. Got the front and rear to thread into the master. The middle was stripped when I removed it, and I failed at straightening up the threads.
So - do I have to replace the entire line, or is there a way to cut off the tip, install a new fitting, and use a tool of some sort to get the right flare in the newly cut end?
Thanks.

You can use a flair tool to add a new fitting and reconnect. The question is whether you will have enough play to connect the original line with the little bit you cut off missing. If there is not enough length to reconnect with a new flair, then a small extension needs to be made. This is really not that big of a deal if you have the right tools.
However, if the lines are old and somewhat corroded, you may just want to replace it.
Thanks david. I did some online searches for a flair tool that would work...... new line is on the way from Moss.
If I read you correctly, you are replacing the entire line - so it probably comes with the correct fitting and already flared. If I didn't follow you correctly, and you are planning on flaring it yourself, you should know that there are several different flare shapes - almost identical to casual inspection. I wouldn't worry too much about that issue with a clutch cylinder - but on the brakes I would want it to be absolutely the correct flare.
Thanks Terry. Bought some rear hard lines from Moss awhile back as mine were crushed at the axle and they were with fittings and flare - hope this one is too! For $26 and some change for a relatively short pipe (5 feet or so) it ought to be. 8-)
