Ahhh..... Saturday night wrestling. Loved the late 50's iron. Just like a couch in the front and the back. Walmart sits where one of the two we used to have now.

Oh Yeah! I remember THOSE two LaVerne refers to! Don't remember any of the movies!

We still have a few here near Akron. It's one of our annual summer outings.

Ah yes and the mosquito coil smokin' away on the dash. Why are all the fun places history? Drive in movies, movie balconies....that empty field off Jolly Road, damn!

I actually remember 2 times, the first was when I was about 5 went to the drive-in as a family and saw North to Alaska and the Vikings(Kirk Douglas) as a double feature. The Vikings was very violent ,I still remember them using this long sharpened metal downhillslide(iron mare? )that the victims straddled and rode if there was anything left of u at the bottom,u were set free.I still remember that 50 years later. The other time was the double feature,Vanishing Point & 2 Lane Blacktop. When that was over every car that could leave rubber on the pavement did and in those days it was most.I can't imagine the 3 houses that stood near to the Delta drive in enjoyed it anywhere near as much.

On the long weekends the local Drive-Ins would hold 'all nighters' of 4 or 5 movies. The 'gang' would plan an outing of it, 20 or so people in 4 or 5 vehicles. We'd pick up our own food on the way (a bit early) have a couple of 'pops' and eat and toss the football or frisbee around until movie time.

Fun weekends.

Gotta say though, I lived a sheltered life. We usually watched the movies. :S

The Super 29 Drive-In. As a child, 1963 Pontiac wide track station wagon. I remember True Grit was the feature.
High school. a 1969 Road Runner. (Mine) Four girls in the trunk. Still plenty of room.

You ever drink too much and forget that metal speaker hanging on the window glass?
Go to a show and think no one is going to park next to you, park so you can string the speaker boxes
between the drivers side and passenger side windows.

Then have someone pull up next to you and pull the wires out of the passenger side.

Still have one here in Fayetteville, Arkanasas. Have yet to go, but it is open all summer. I remember the Two View in San Diego, now a strip mall and the Campus near SDSU. All gone now. Took my first car, 59 Pontiac Star Chief 4 door with a car load of friends. One price for all. It was only 4 bucks to get in. Great times.

I remember the old Delta Drive-in Movie 7 miles North of Sikeston, MO, (now famous as the home of throwed rolls), in the mid 50s. One dollar a car load until the Mexican laborers started coming in by the 2 ton truckload. Then the price went to a dollar for the first 5 in a vehicle and 10 cents a head after that, still a damned good deal. Those places got more interesting to me in the 1960s.

Sliding down the razor blade of life. (as Tom Lehr put it)
