I never expected something like this to turn up at all, much less so quickly. It was sold when I inquired about it but figured maybe the buyer wasn't being too quick in finishing the deal. I decided to bribe the seller by offering an extra 100 bucks for crating and handling and putting in in the hands of a shipper. The next message I got indicated the guy was goofing around about paying until he found cheap shipping and I replied that I worry about shipping only after I've paid for something. Early this morning I got an e-mail saying he'd sell it to me. He'll have a cashiers check in his hot little hands tomorrow.

The engine in Boxley needed a set of heads at least. A pair of rebuilts from a reliable rebuilder would cost 700 bucks, involve shipping cores, buying gaskets.......... you guys know the drill. This kit will eliminate all the problems inherent to the flat four and give abut 44 more HP.

JDW,
Nice find & you're still way ahead.
I knew we were going to enjoy another of your 'Conversions' with Boxley.
Ummm while were here ... may I say something about those wheels/caps?
They really do nothing for 'The Look'. I have no recommendations but - perhaps a nice set of .............?!?!?!?
I'm sure I need not mention this, but please keep us posted.
Regards, Graham

Hey now Graham, those hub caps are originals and national treasures. I may have to secure them with some school paste or something to keep them from being stolen. ;) When I paint them yellow they'll look much better.

Where the hell does TheSamba come from???

Brian, a "Samba" is a sort of nickname for an early 23 window bus. Volkswagen of America is VERY strict about using the VW logo or names referring to VW, Volkswagen, Beetle, Bug, etc. Man VW clubs can't even use the words or logos as they are so strict about there copyrights/trademarks. That is why the site is called what it is.
