MGB: I don't want to ride the wave

I agree with this assessment of Obama, and can only warn others not to get on the wave.
Bill Brown, is a highly respected retired member of the Billy Graham team so, I take his assessment of Obama very seriously. I share his concern about the 'rock star' image Obama has, and watch with growing concern at the celebrity status the media has foisted upon him.

Obama: By Bill Brown of the Billy Graham Team

The Obama Tidal Wave

We are witnessing a political phenomenon with Barack Obama of rare magnitude.

His speeches have inspired millions and yet most of his followers have no idea of what he stands for except platitudes of 'Change' or that he says he will be a 'Uniter'.

The power of speech from a charismatic person truly can be a powerful thing. Certainly Billy Graham had charisma. Both his manner of speech and particularly the content has changed millions.

On the extreme other hand, the charisma of Adolph Hitler, too, inspired millions and the results were catastrophic..

Barack Obama certainly is no Hitler or a Billy Graham, but for many Americans riding on the Obama Tidal Wave it is just like a surfer who might be ecstatic and euphoric while riding a tidal wave, but the reality of the ride is what happens when it hits shore.

Just Some of What Defines Barack Obama:

1. He voted for partial birth abortion.
2. He voted no on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions.
3. Supports affirmative action in Colleges and Government (quotas)..
4. In 2001 he questioned harsh penalties for drug dealing as being too severe.
5. Says he will deal with street level drug dealing as minimum wage affair.
6. Admitted his use of marijuana and cocaine in high school and in college.
7. His religious convictions are very murky.
8. He is willing to meet with Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jung Il and Mahmoud Amadinejad.
9. Has said that one of his first goals after being elected would be to have a
conference with all Muslim Nations
10. Opposed the Patriot Act.
11. First bill he signed that was ever passed was campaign finance reform.
12. Voted to allow law suits against gun manufacturers.
13. Supports universal health-care.
14. Voted yes on providing habeas corpus for Guantanamo detainees.
15. Supports granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.
16. Supports extending welfare to illegal immigrants.
17. Voted yes on comprehensive immigration reform.
18. Voted yes on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security.
19. Wants to make the minimum wage a 'living wage'.
20. Voted with Democratic Party 96 percent of 251 votes. (241 votes Demo, 10 votes Republican)
21. Is a big believer in the separation of church and state.
22. Opposed to any efforts to Privatize Social Security and instead supports increasing the amount of tax paid into Soc. Sec. Tax Increase.
23. He voted No on repealing the Alternative Minimum Tax which now hits middle income brackets.
24. He voted No on repealing the 'Death' Tax. Tax Increase.
25. He wants to raise the Capital Gains Tax. Tax Increase.
26. Has repeatedly said the surge in Iraq has not succeeded...which is not true.
27. He is ranked as the most liberal Senator in the Senate today and that takes some doing.

If your political choices are consistent with Barack Obama's and you think that his positions will bring America together, or make it a better place, then you will probably enjoy the ride. If you are like most Americans that after examining what he stands for, are truly not in line with his record, it would be prudent to get off the wave or better yet, never get on, before it comes on shore and undermines the very foundations of this great Country. We have limited time to save America or the Supreme Court as we know it.

Inaction is action.

Good post and I believe every statement to be true of Obama and a couple to be true of McCain in immigration.

Thanks Charlie. If those are all true, I disagree with some of his positions.

Rod, if you google the subjects you will find them, all true.

One great thing about this election, truly two widely difference choices. Thought the two candidates fall over the same words at times. OK, both of them aren't Bush. Congrats. Now be proud of your differences and campaign on those, even the offensive ones.

Mr. Graham, Nixon's personal pastor? Everyone gets suckered by charisma at times. Though the odd thing is few successful politicians had less charisma than Nixon.

I happen to be a huge believer of 21. Keep goverment out of my church (and visa versa), bedroom, and as much as possible, wallet and business.

Obama effectively just voted to re-adjust the 23, AMT is a good tax, just failed to index for inflation. 24, inheritance tax. Countries that want to avoid a permant aristocracy better have one. Just a high threshold. Family farm is well under it. Nobody needs to inherit a billion dollars.

Not to say I'm an Obama fan by any means.

You won't find the military saying the surge worked. Lack of violance is not success. It's like saying we won in Vietnam in '73 as we were successfully pulling most of the soldiers. And the surge itself was an admission of failure of the original plan, which happened over at best failed intelligence, at worst open deceit.

And we need to surge in Afganistan were we the real 9-11 folks were hiding.

Assuming they are true, many still needs to be placed in some kind of context to be meaningful. Some don't though, at least for my use, like welfare for illegals.

Lets me see, as a LEGAL Immigrant I definitely do not agree with 15-18.

Apparently not all true.

Rod, correct they do have to be put in context. Welfare for illegals, he supports the current law where we provide them free medical. Also he wants to give them Social Security payments for earnings they had while here. They can have their checks sent to Mexico. He wants to treat them the same as citizens when they are here. McCain wanted the same but changed his mind after the voter revolt. Obama did not change. Obama wants to give amnesty and give citizenship to those here. Twenty million new Democrat voters.

Good show, Derek.

As soon as I saw the one on partial birth abortion on the list it sent up a red flag. It's an easy one to get (misinformed IMO) people worked up over, but I've done a bit of research on it and knew the pitfalls there.

The one that made me laugh was his being a big advocate of separation of church and state! Oh, horrors!!

Still, it's good to do our homework and know who we are voting for. They sometimes aren't what they say they are, and are usually never what their opponents say they are.

Rod, as I said they need to be in context. Obama has adjusted his position many times and the snopes seems to pick and choose. As to the partial birth abortion Obama did not support the ban on partial birth abortion. He was against the Supreme Court decison because he was worried about the impact on roe v wade.

Obama quote.

[T]here’s a lot at stake in this election, especially for our daughters. To appreciate that all you have to do is review the recent decisions handed down by the Supreme Court of the United States. For the first time in Gonzales versus Carhart, the Supreme Court held—upheld a federal ban on abortions with criminal penalties for doctors. For the first time, the Court’s endorsed an abortion restriction without an exception for women’s health. The decision presumed that the health of women is best protected by the Court—not by doctors and not by the woman herself. That presumption is wrong.

Some people argue that the federal ban on abortion was just an isolated effort aimed at one medical procedure—that it’s not part of a concerted effort to roll back the hard-won rights of American women. That presumption is also wrong.

This is why they say Obama supports late term abortions. They also us his position on the life of a child after a botched abortion. He does not want medical care because it would be second guessing the initial decision of the mother.

Rod and Dereck,

I read all through the snopes piece and I found the one item which was number 5 which could be out of context. The rest seemed to confirm the Grahm list. Did I miss any, if I did which ones for my own accuracy.

In context? Off to a bad start when Bill Brown says he didn't even write it. So, who did? A crack team of McCain rumormongers? Hmmm.

Dereck, I am with Eric, I did not even really pay attention to who wrote it. I don't care and have said so many times. I was just trying to follow your post of the snopes and did I miss any. Still a question.

Not to you, no.

Well, I read the Snopes page even though I'm not really a political junkie, and it seems that that falsely attributed "document" is about as twisted and accurate as your spelling of my name. :)

But you're right, I don't really care who wrote it, either.

My bad for even bringing up abortion, a subject I won't discuss here.

Richard, it's a long list and I think that virtually every one means something at least subtly different on closer examination.

It would be a daunting job, and book could be written on each item, but in the end we must each do our own homework and decide on our own. I know this sounds like a copout, but this afternoon I'm grading 3rd grade homework for my wife, and must stop slacking and get back to this mind numbing task...

I think that all conservatives should vote for McCain, and not waste time on this Obama info, true or false.

Oct 06, 2008 16:39:01
Rod H.

Who wrote it is independent of the facts, but it is dishonest and I thought we agreed we don't like liars.

Why do these people who write these forwards feel compelled to constantly lie about the authors? That's important!

Charlie, thanks, good stuff, please hang around some more.

I will cut and paste and send to millions.

I agree with his position on some and disagree on others. I also would take exception with some of the points listed. I have yet to meet a person, let alone a person running for public office who I could lockstep with. Somebody from the Billy Gaham team, with all do respect, does not stand anywhere near neutral, but if that is where you like to view things from, great.
