I finally found it again, Assholes, TX. Yes, Believe It

The first time we stayed at San Luis Pass County Park, crossed the bridge to Galveston, TX and started up the road I spotted an actual state road sign that said, "Assholes", and had an arrow pointing East toward the beach. I didn't believe what I saw but learned that surfers had given that name to what was no more than a small neighborhood because of the way the residents treated them. Hard telling how they made that name stick and got an official sign put up. When we left there to come home was the last time I saw that sigh and have doubted that Assholes, TX ever really existed even though I clearly saw the sign.

I got to poking around this evening and found it. It is marked on the satellite picture right on the beach and you can see the search name Assholes above the picture.

I'll be in that area in Feb. (leaving on a cruise from Galveston) I'll have to look that up!

John, that place name tops mine. I thought I'd found a unique place on my motorcycle trip to Newfoundland this past September.......Jerry's Nose. Turned to take the pic and drove down the side road but couldn't find Jerry's nose or any other part of his anatomy. There's a lot of unique place names in Newfoundland & Labrador, one of which is called Dildo.

I always found Intercourse, Pa. ancaster, county rather interesting for Amish country.

Blue Ball, PA is also located in Lancaster, PA. There's also Climax, Pa east of Pittsburgh.

One of my favorite street signs is GOA WAY in Ocean Beach N.J. and Peckerwood Lane in N.C.

Clarksville, TN has Needless street intersecting Needmore street.
Sign on Austen-Peay University says "Dead End" with an arrow pointing to the dead end.
Need to get pics of both signs the next time I go there.

There seems to be an adequate supply of them here, as in most places around the country I've visited. However, it seems the concentrations get quite a bit thicker the closer to DC you get. Don't believe it? Just go through a building code review up there...Maryland, Virginia...
