Yes I remember Joh - years ago, my dad used to say that when the other states were converting to daylight saving time and Qld wouldn't, it was because Joh thought the sun shined out of his ar*# and he wasn't getting up an hour earlier for anyone!

Also remember Russ Hinze from that era.

The reason Queensland didn't and still doesn't have daylight saving is due the fact the extra sun will fade the curtain and the milk cows will arrive for milking after the milk truck has left.
Imagine the mess we would be in.....

Russ Hinze....boy did he cause some trouble in his day. But he used his position to get roads built where "he" needed them and mining extraction licenses where "he" needed them. Our main dam is called the "Hinze Dam" in honour of the big guy.

I tend to think the Banana Republic days are behind us....maybe. We did hold a state referendum a number of years ago about day light saving but lost...or won depending on your perspective.
