I am trying to fine tune my engine but I don't seem to be able to make it run smoothly. I am getting the carburetor checked and all but I would like to ask about the timing and the valve spacing.

where do you have your timing set at?

what is the proper gap for valves on a good engine but not like new (rebuilt)?

I want to make sure that my valves are not to tight and that my timing is right.

Thank you for your help.

I time MG engines at 10-12 degrees btc. As for valves, it depends on if your cam is stock or heated up. A stock cam is set at .013 hot.

go to your book and set everything standard....then bassed on the performance stuff you have go from there. if you have a standard engine it should behave properly, if you have added performance stuff it will sound different but stronger where it counts.....

Kerim, I always start 10 degrees BTDC static and go from there with the knurled nut on my 25D distributor. 0.015 cold valve clearence.
tey this link from the Library to become more familiar with the process of timing.

That reference says that the engine should be at 600 RPM when doing the Stroboscopic timing. Every thing else I have read says 1500 RPM. Being new, I wonder which is correct?
