When I bought the 79 B, the guy told me the overdrive didn't work, (knew it could be fixed). I think I have found the problem. Should the oil look like syrup and the filter be full of cookie dough? Sugar cookies I think.
Oh the things I have seen.
Clean, clean clean. renew, refresh.
Keep them alive!!!!!

Is the cookie dough old clutch material, or just solidified 90wt gear oil?
What said here on this post is true and what is made up? I can't tell? If even half is true, I cringe.
have you been playing with the pilsbury dough boy again dano!!

Nope, just reeling still from the obsession of MG's you taught me about!!
Milky looking oil is a sign somehow water has gotten in. Can't imagine how though. Drain and add fresh oil, clean filter, and try it out. Then you'll know if you have any friction material left on the sliding member...

...if the gearbox was submerged in water, that would get water into it (flood damage)? Eeek. :eyepop:
Smelled like used gear oil, rather thick. The cookie dough was on the magnet and in the filter. I think a good cleaning should do it. I'll probably get it up and running put a few hundred miles on it and change it all again.
Has anyone use carb cleaner on the inside?
