After debating seriously about what to do with my '79 MGB / V6 conversion that is still at my ex's house in my garage I think I am going to part with her. I dont want to but with no place to keep it out of the weather and it still being a project I think I am going to let her go. My Nephew / Godchild offered me 2k for if which is less than I have invested in the motor alone I told him he could have it as long as he respected the fact that this is not a run of the mill rice burner and he keeps it as it was intended to be. I cannot go any further with it where I am in my apartment and it cant stay at my ex's forever, and I am not sure when I will be able to have a shop to continue my build. She does has no problem with it being there and stressed that when I told her I was selling it. I just cant see it sitting dormant, as it has for at least the last year & half untouched...I did let him know in no uncertain terms is he ever decides to sell it I had BETTER be the first one to know about it...

Oh well I guess I will be without a MG soon but I will still visit & play here from time to time.

That's a huge bummer Monte. I know you put a lot of work into that car before you moved out.

If you don't have space to work on it then in my opinion it's not worth keeping the car. Your situation will change eventually and when it does, grab yourself another project! What about keeping the engine and (small) associated bits, stuffing them in your storage locker for the next project?

There will be always be other cars and other opportunities so don't let a temporary setback get you too down in the dumps.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks Chris...I thought about just dumping the shell & keeping the mecanical parts for the next build, but since it is going to my nephew (who he has been like a son to me) I decided to let it go. Thing is...He is mechanically inclined and has built his own projecs but he has no clue on what I have done and where the next step is...At a minimum I will have to help with the completion of her build so at least I will still get to finish putting it together

Sorry to hear your having to let it go Monte. I remember discussing the clutch/ trans issues quite awhile back with you. Well you can always do one later. Good luck.

I know exactly where you are and what you're going through. I've started a V8 project twice before, only to have a divorce end the first one, and a job change and move end the second one. Third time's the charm, so I've heard. I've collected most of the hard parts and the project is on its way. Like was stated above, your situation will change and there will be other projects.

Hang in there!

Sorry Monte. As per John H. I know the feeling. Just keep in mind that when one door closes another one opens and some times wider.

Keep in touch.

Sorry to hear about this. I had to let a solid 64 TR4 go because of a move. Not to worry - there will be more. Do what ya gotta do.

Thanks Guys, it is all greatly appreciated...

Like Brian mentioned above even though it may be "his car" I will still be putting it together so I will still be leaning on the wealth of knowledge this site holds. Who knows, with him being 19 and changing his mind daily in a year or two he may get bored with it and maybe I will be in a position to get her back...

Monte,

store it away somewhere and let it rest for some years. Don't ask me why, I've learned my lesson that way and I still enjoy my V8. Putting it into storege helps to find time and get some distance to the situation you are in by now. Beleve it, the fire you hve inside for your car will become bigger again in years to come as I experienced and you will enjoy your projekt even more then as you will be prepared for it.
