I got the A/C lines hooked up and the system converted for 134A on the Jettup today. Had a bit of a tough time in one area where items look the same on a Rabbit or Jetta, but are a little different. A solid line runs from the evaporator to the recievier dryer and a solid line from there to the condenser. The line from the dryer to the condenser spans about 8", has three bends in it, and the one I had out was about an inch too long. I may have the shorter one buried in a box in my tiny jam packed lean-to shed but likely not too. I have a fine tubing bender so I got it out and went to work tightening up two curves in the line and it came in closer. Tweaked it a little more and the angles went wrong so I straightened one a little. Close, but that counts only with horse shoes and hand grenades. I tightened a curve I couldn't get on with the bender and it was touch and go in the vise pulling the curve tighter around a big socket. Very close, only about 5 degrees off on one end and that's when I started talking to the Jettup, "Come on Babe, gimme a clue, you're it's about there. What do I need to do to make it fit up nice?" And bless Pat she told me what to do. "Tweak the other line going into the dryer and and turn the dryer a little bit." I did that and she fit like the paper on the wall and I thanked her. It's just a thing with me and cars. When things are really tough I can ask the car what to do and they'll tell me every time. I know it's my subconcience working, but I give the car credit for it. They like it and help me the next time I need it too. Sometimes I think if I wasn't a bone motorhead I'd just be a derelict.

I had no clue what a jettup was so I was going to ask you what one is but I decided to do a search on Google and came across what I think it your home page with all kind of pictures. Some very interesting stuff (except the hog butchering pics). I came across this one and am scratching my head. What is it?

Believe it or not David, but the hog butchering album gets more views than any of them. Don't ask me why. It consistantly gets a good 30% more views than any of the others.

As for the Fulda: I just put it there so I could post it here in an attempt to start a ugly little car contest. I don't know a thing about it, but can find out later. I have all my Automobile Quarterly magazines boxed up until we build some new book shelves. I'm sure it's in there someplace, I have AQ from day one to date, 42 or 44 years of it.

Personally, I am real surprised that nobody knows about the rod thing!! There will be a reason, but who has a clue what it is!!

The guy who knows is dead an took his secret to the grave knowing some day somebody would be driven nuts by the "backwards" rods. He's sitting on a pile of hot coals right now laughing his ass off at you.

iggy

Most people don't understand what I mean when I say that I just listen to something and it will speak to me. (Not in words, more of a ghestalt.)
Recently I couldn't figure out a problem with my truck and had to take it to a mechanic. I was pretty close, but just couldn't quite get it. Of course, I haven't even put a thousand miles on the truck since I got it - didn't know it well enough.
Point being, that was only the THIRD time in my LIFE that I couldn't figure something out and had to take it in.
Just listen. It will tell you what's wrong and maybe even how to fix it. Think I even said something like that in my carb post a while back...

There's nothing to write about my MG Bea. Just jump in her and go, she's been ready like that for years. I check her over every little bit, she seldom needs anything at all. You'd be bored shItless at alnythng I wrote about her.

Too bad about the Spit. Maybe you can slow down a little and get a Ryan PT-22. That's the only airplane I'd rather have than our PT-19, no wait a minute. What was that Ryan that looked like a Fairchild, low wings, braced, and all polished aluminum?

Jerry is angry again!!!!
