I've got a new ignition switch for a 71 GT. Will it work on a 79 roadster? Thanks!

Only if you cut the plug off of the harness and either put bullet connecters on the wires, or cut the bullet connecters off of the switch and splice the wires. You will also need to figure the color codes, because they are different. Bottom line I wouldn't do it.

Sam: I may have a switch for you - in fact the whole steering column with steering wheel. Probably no key, though, but you're welcome to it and it is free and close enough to you! AL Bradley

Thanks for the offer, Al, but I need one with a key. As Tom points out, the earlier 71 gt switches are very different from the later model Bs. My 79 also has a bad starter. The teeth on the starter drive assembly got chewed up somehow, and I suspect the bad key in the ignition switch had something to do with it.

You can take the switch to a locksmith and get a key cut.

Can you remove the small screw holding the actual switch or do you need the lock barrel switch and steering lock complete?
