MGB: Independence Day

Maybe because we just got back from visiting the cradle of our national birth, and seeing some of the history that got us where we are, but this anniversary of the beginning of our national independence seems especially stirring.

No matter how loudly or quietly you celebrate, I hope everyone has a proud, happy, and thoughtful Fourth of July.

Thanks, Jim - same to you!

My ex-pat Brit hubby and I both celebrate this holiday - for different reasons. LOL

Would it be ironic to celebrate independence by tooling around the US in a British car ? :)

If it rainy in your part, it is a good day to watch the John Adams series on HBO. It is a beautiful day here in Maine (for once). I am protecting the tourists in Wells, Maine today instead of watching the parade with my two Grandsons :(

Mostly Quebecois here in town, mal de coeur?? :)

Beautiful day here in upstate NY. I will be celebrating by bringing my wife home from the nursing home she's been in for the past month. Today she gets her independence back. I just hope I can continue give her the excellent care that she got while she was here.

Happy Fourth to all

Glad to hear the good news George.

The G/F and I will be walking 1/2 block to watch the Los Molinos (population 1200) 4th of July parade. It's a hoot! Funky floats, bands, etc. Real small town Americana.

Last years highlight was when a local peace center (5-6 people) marched and they put the "this is why America is free" cold war missile on a flatbed directly after them.

Every 4th of July Los Molinos elects a "Honorary Mayor". Local business owners and dignitaries (recycling center, bars, store, etc..) compete for the honor. Canning jars are placed at businesses for each candidate and donations are made. The person who collects the most money is elected honorary mayor. All the money donated goes toward the cost of the parade as well as the kids play-day this afternoon in the local park. Recently we had a two term mayor; Wazoo the Clown!

It's very similar to our current election system here in America. Whoever has the most money, wins!

Yep. That's why we lead a British car run every year in Malibu. We had to scale it back this year because last time 50 cars showed up and it was chaos.

Happy Independence Day!

"If you change your minds I guess we could take you back again." :) Too late for that. We're doing fine . . . thank you very much.

Lots of fireworks here in Pasadena. More fireworks tonight over the Rose Bowl. Dogs are hiding in the closet! Lots of flags out, too. That's nice to see. Too hot for a parade--about 95+.
