There are a lot of us on here that have 76 models. If you would be a little more specific in questions then I think you might get lots of returns to your statement. We love to talk about our cars!!
thanx for the reply and was trying to get a feeling in general for the 76 B I know thiers a jillion questions I could ask, but again "just asking in general thanx
They don't have the suspension upgrades that came on the later cars. Namely roll bars and such. My brother in law has one and while I have '78, the difference in the cars in noticable. Not bad, just different in a handling aspect. His runs great and has just as much "go power" as mine. It looks the same in every way. I like the '76 dash more than the '78, but it is not a big thing.
Getting a '76 is not a bad thing, I would go for it. If you want to tighten up the suspension, it is not hard or expensive to do it. have fun.
Dan, if you don't buy one soon, you'll be like me: over three years down the road and still no car!
mine runs great handles great now, and good looking - i'm prejudice though - the chrome gnomes will be popping anytime now
ric
do like my dash better than later years and it is what you see while driving
Perhaps the laziest post ever.

thanx for the wonderful information and have a nice day:I3:

LOL. Chrome gnomes - I like that!
requires a smog in California. Would not ouch one. Even free.

thinking ya mean sway bar. No they don't but is an easy fix. I have one that is almost restored, with a chrome bumper conversion. Guess I like ta piss off both sides, chrome knomes "look another RB to CB conversion" or the RB crowd, "shoulda bought a CB to start with".
The 76's have quite a bit of smog components and hoses running all over the place. But like stated above, the dashes are cleaner IMO. All in all, buy what you want, have fun!
The 75 and the 76 cars did not have the rear anti-sway bar. My 75 did not have a front anti-sway bar, but I added one. Also, the brake pedal box is located just a tad bit further toward the front of the car than on the 77-80 models. Not really a problem unless you want to install SU carbs, then fitting air cleaners can be tricky. I love my 75, though I did ditch the ZS carb and installed HIF's.
It has a 4 cylinder engine. :D
"
I thought they were diesel, atleast thats what youve been tellin every body
From what i've seen and been told the 76 was the second year of the stromberg carb. So if that means anything??? I was once told 75 was a tough year to find(fires) but that might just be rumors. I like the 75 dash with the 25 year medal on, but other that that they are the same. Like all MG's a little under powered IMO but great looking and fun cars.

well played, bob. well played.
Seriously, Dan.
If I'd pulled the trigger three years ago I'd have three years of MG experience (and some enjoyment) under my belt now. I'd be one of the experts! As it is, I'm starting to feel too old and poor. If you have the money and a place to park the thing, go ahead. I like that blaze orange 76 that's advertised on the Seattle craigslist.

Bigger than a bread box.
Seriously though, the 75 and 76 are considered the worst handling years because they have the increased ride height of the RB cars without any sway bars to help control body roll. The nice thing is that they usually sell for quite a bit less than other RB cars and it costs very little to bring their handling up to a pretty reasonable level. The 75 also has the pedal box that is slightly offset, making twin carb conversions pretty difficult. They also both have the radiator mounted in the rearward position, which means if the bonnet release ever gets stuck it's a simple job to reach underneath and release it.

yes I used to race model cars and understand ride height, infact we used ride height gauges.............
so the body is not closer to the ground makes the car more unstable, and sway bars increase torsion handling, atleast thats what I understand, so the same prolly goes for actual size vehicles
