MyOldMGB

Hello -- I'm joining up in anticipation of my new little MGB that I'll have shortly. I'm a car fanatic since ?? and have had a lot of interesting cars and experience over the years. I'm currently just outside of Kansas City and have a wife of over 10 years, and two children -- one boy almost 13 and one girl that is getting close to 4 1/2. I currently have a 1962 Buick Special Deluxe four-door with the 215 V8 and only 44K miles. (Yes! I've got every shred of paperwork . . . that's 44K miles, it even has factory windshield fluid glass bottle.) My last British car was a 1960 Morris Minor that I was going to drop a 2.5L Dodge Dakota engine in and turbo. My plans ended up bigger than my garage/tools/time would allow, so I ditched the Morris (Project Morris -- 4 inch chop job, shaved handles, frenched antenna) this March. I got the itch again though for a car project, and the wife wanted a convertible. I found a car and will hopefully have it home tonight. (I'll elaborate on details and provide pics soon -- trust me!) I was figuring it up the other day and so far I've had 16 vehicles in my driveway at one time or another over the past 7 years of home ownership. Luckily I have a large driveway . . . not all have been there the same time, but it has on occasion looked like a used car lot around here.

I've had some interesting cars in the past, my first "collectible" was a 1983 Shelby Charger that I nick-named "Christine", for semi-obvious reasons. It got a Lunati camshaft, Hooker header, dual 40mm Weber carbs and had a mean streak for hunting down V8's to play with. My next interesting car was a 1985 Dodge Daytona with a Turbo II engine with 275 hp . . . it was a Chrysler engineer's car and had a prototype head and custom computer programming. (Yea, right . . and my uncle had a 1 ton truck with a carb that let him get 50 mpg with a trailer till the government took it from him . . . . but the Daytona was the real deal! No joke!) I don't know what my old MGB will have in store for me, but at least this project has the green light from my wife . . .that's always a plus. :)

Two+ hours to go . . . I'm so excited!!!!!

Welcome to the group... Keep an eye on that 215 of yours... It's likely to disappear if you leave it around too many MGB people, seeing as its the easiest V8 conversion available for these cars - just really hard to find the engine!

Welcome aboard. You can use that MG for a spare car for that land yacht of yours!

Hopefully we'll meet up in KC for the car show over Labor Day, I'll be there along with some others from here.

Ironically enough, I've been trying to sell the Buick . . . apparently not in the right place though . . . but since finding the MGB, I've kind of been in a slight holding pattern. Any guesses why? :D

I'll have to get my journal up and going to document the fun I'm about to have. :) I found this car on craigslist.org this week and sealed the deal tonight. I don't think I got it at too bad a price -- $600, plus it has two new floor panels ready to be welded in ($200 from catalog I found).

I'll give ya $50 for the 215 in that Buick (hey, that's more than double what I paid for an MGB 1800 that runs great!) I have a V8 project up my sleeve for Emma (our '75) since Chuck seems to be currently out of projects. I'll even come pick it up and bring you a case of your favorite beverage.
:D

LOL -- the car's (Buick Special) in too good of shape to yank the engine alone . . . I've got it for sale for $1600 right now. We'll see how that goes. I've gotta see what my current engine is like . . . then go from there.
