Hi Greg,

Sorry Greg, just got home with the family from skiing at Perisher! I bought my top in quite a derelict state about 15 years ago. (No glass, rubbers, clamps or interior trim) The trimmer sourced the rubbers from an Automotive rubber supplier, no longer recall who though. The rear rubber (which is the one Heritage advertised) is not a problem to find in my experience; securely bonding one to the front has been a bit more of a problem for me.
Also, take care, the top sits on the rubber seal at the rear, rather than engaging with the body mounts for the soft top. As a result, the top will ultimately scuff the paint where the hard top sits at the rear. This is something I'm still hoping to sort out. Despite being nicely styled and trimmed compared to most hardtops, the rear mounting arrangement on the J and S top is definitely a poor system.

Hi Thomas, no need to say sorry, I only used your name in vain due to your passion for your J&S.

Thank you very much for the information, it is very much "food for thought".

The J&S that Gavin has posted the picture of is the one that I have my eye on at the moment.

Glad you said that, Greg, I'm in two minds about the 'hardtop route'. I like the idea but the two other people in my life are unimpressed and I've passed on a couple that have been a bit pricey.
I was thinking about the one that Gavin has 'outed' but I'll defer to you as I'm still not sure I want to start WWlll at home just yet.

Hi Greg,

From the Photo it appears the one in the picture is in reasonable shape ... the trim, chrome strips, and clips all seem to be there, as are the window trims,

It appears to have been just washed down, but you should inspect prior to purchase for cracking to the Fibreglass and to make sure all the trims are there ... they don't make them anymore.

The Lexan / Perspex is easily cut to size and replaced, and any good Motor Trimmer should be able to make up a set of rubbers.

Thomas is right about the rear seal to Body chafing the paint but this is easily remedied with a felt strip cust to size and attached with Velcro.

Here are few mor examples that have recently sold to give you an idea of condition and price ... what is on offer at the moment is basically a shell requiring $'s to refurbish to something close to useable.

Hey Gavin, can you elaborate on the "felt strips attached with velcro" please.

Hi Thomas,

Yeah, you'll need to raid the Missus sewing Kit for the goodies ... or go to Spotlight.

The Velcro, you can buy in strips with peel off backing; one side can be stuck to the rubber and the other attached / sewn to a strip of felt the same width as the rubber ... hey presto, some innocuous removable padding.

Best Regards B)
