June 14th
June 14th 1952 is a very important day in the history of the Herschell family. It’s the day Nancy and I were married. I think a little history should go along with this as it was a very interesting tale. Bear with me if you will.
Nancy and I had known each other (through our church) all through High school and we finally started dating in my junior year. We both graduated (she a year ahead of me as she’s 8 months older) and I went on to college here in Rochester. We became engaged during my junior year of college and planned to get married in September of 1952. It was also during this period of time that the Korean war had broken out and we thought it over seriously and decided to push our wedding date up to just after my graduation. I was classified 1-A and we didn’t know if I would be drafted or not. The date June 14th was selected and it was the day after I graduated from college. We were married in June and on the date of our original planned wedding I was in the army at Fort Devins NJ. From there after a short time in Radio School I was sent to Korea and spent 18 months there.
So our third anniversary was the first one we were able to spend together. Fifty
six years later we have never been separated on our anniversary. One interesting side note to this: all the old “biddy’s” at our church began eyeing Nancy every chance they got to see if she was pregnant seeing that we pushed the date up. Back then you got engaged, married and then had children in that order. We also decided that we would not have any children until I was safely home from the army so we would be sure our children would have two parents. Our oldest son was born four years after we were married and Nancy joked that it was the longest pregnancy on record.
So today June 14th we will celebrate an anniversary of a wonderful marriage, that produced two fine sons two great daughters in law and four fantastic grandchildren.
We must have done something right.
And she's still with me. Some guys just have all the luck I guess.
I'm just thankful that I'm one of those lucky ones

George, I have a new goal we were married at 19 and are at 42 years and I surely hope I make it to celebrate 56 years. It is wonderful when it all works and the entire family is better for it.
Congratulations to both of you! You've got us beat by 26 years. We just celebrated our 30th on May 6.
Congrats to you both Nancy & George!
Your right..... there used to be a sequence but now days they seem to have forgotten the marriage part. We were married 3 months before Karin's high school graduation, she was 18 yrs and 2 days old... I was 20.... in love for life and we meant it. I don't think I'd change anything.... she's my best friend and we've made ourselves a wonderful life... so George, I too consider myself one of the lucky ones!
Congrats again!
Don
P.S.
Another important note, June 14th is Flag day... fly your flag eveyone!

We celebrated 33 years on the 3rd of May and thought that was good among a lot of the people we knew. You just shed a new light on it George. In fact I was only 14 months old when you were married.....Congrats
Happy anniversary George. Our best wishes for continued happiness, health, and most of all, for love.

Michael,
Nancys favorite qalwlays says that she heard she cshoujld "get em yhoung and train tem right, Where did I go wrong".
Michael,
Nancy always refers to that old quote "get em young and train em right".
What she she wants to know is "where did she go wrong".
She may have "gone wrong" but I sure as hell didn't.
She's tolerated this MG mania since 1959 when we bought our first one (a 52 TD which we still have).
And it was her suggestion that we buy it.
