Humanists believe that humans should be humane and ethical.

They believe that working for the benefit of society also brings individual happiness.

An old friend of mine, who happens to be a free market capitalist, told me that in spite of this he believes that the people who truly excell in our society...the ones who are the most productive and innovative...would do so regardless of personal financial reward. They excell because they have the ability, creativity, and drive to do this, and are not driven solely by money.

They work hard with their particular gift, and do deserve financial rewards, but I'd like to think they also experience great pride and happiness by benefitting society.
