Ok so Pete, my 7 foot tall 16 year old, bought his first car, an '81 Mercedes 300 S-class Turbo-Diesel today... This evening he determines that the dash lights don't work. I go to the Mercedes group online and ask "Where are the dash panel light controls This is what i am told like 3 seconds later:

"It is operated by turning the left knob/button on the instrument cluster. The rheostat is frequently burnt out or corroded."

followed by:

"A simple jumper wire is the most common fix. Even the brightest setting is too dim for most people."

Suddenly I am at home with his purchase...

It kind of looks like a four door big brother to the '79 RBB... except it is (shudder) Butter Cream Yellow

Another kindred thing is that the MB is as infinitely repairable as the MG as long a the tin worm doesn't move in.

Pieces is parts and in the case of MB the pieces are not cheap, but at least he won't have to throw the whole thing away like so many other Asian and Euro cars must be dealt with theses days.

My last MB was an S Class 126 Chassis 300SD.

There are two kinds of cars on this planet.

One kind is the Mid and Larger Class Mercedes.

The other kind is All The Rest.
