I picked up two refurbished King Pin/Swivel assemblies recently from a distributer in the UK. These have new inner parts, kingpin/bushings/etc. I have not been able to install them yet as I am waiting for some other parts to arrive from another source. Was looking them over today and noticed something in the upper fulcrum/trunnion link that has me a little concerned.
As can be seen in the pictures below, the left front upper trunnion (picture #1 & #2), the scalloped section of the upper king pin does not seem to be meshing properly with the inner wall of the trunnion link. In picture #3, the right assembly, the same thing is happening though at a lesser degree.
Both units seem to have the upper nut tightened as far as it will go, I checked, so it does not look like the upper trunnion link can be forced down any further on the assembly.
As the original had to be cut off the car, I have no reference as to how things should look and how they will eventually fit with the upper fulcrum pin. Are these normal, acceptable tolerances or is there an adjustment involved?
I suppose things may become a lot clearer once the other parts arrive, upper fulcrum kit that is, but thought I would ask.
King Pins, Are These Within Tolerances?

thats absolutely fine-believe me ive been arguing on the phone with the engineer who refurbished kingpins like this-very rarely does the cutout on the trunion pin match with the inside diameter of the trunion top-as long as you have no up and down movement-they are fine
only problem you might find here is if you are fitting polybushes-in which case you will have to adjust the thrust washers under the trunion top or take some material out of the bushes. i used rubber ones there and they give you enough squish to fit in good enough
hope you have the stub axles with them too-
For now, I am using an upper fulcrum kit that comes with rubber bushings. Perhaps I will switch to poly in the future once I have driven the car for a while and develop a feel for what I like or don't like.
The units came with everything, the king pin, all three upper and lower bushings which are reamed, as well as the stub axle and all else. All I have to do is load the grease, bolt on the steering lever and install the upper and lower fulcrum/trunnion pins/bushings/etc.
Thanks for clearing it up. This is twice that you have personally helped me out in the last two days. I appreciate it.
Top nut is torqued to 60 ft/lb
What you see is acceptable.
They should turn freely and there should be no play up and down between the stub axle and king pin.
Give them an extra shot of grease before installing.
I would not recommend messing with thrust washers or taking material out of bushings!
If in doubt for any reason, check with supplier.

i had to learn the hard way by putting bushes in my own stub axles and then completely mangling them with the reamers-then sending the abused stub axles and kingpins to have the pre assembled unit returned..minus some cash-it cost me time and money and id hate to think someone else had to go through what i did...buying king pins on the advice of a 'friend'. its a pretty easy job from here-bottom trunion in first then jack under that-prize open the suspension arm and jack it into place...30 mins later you'll have the wheel on and some slinky smooth steering action •* )
That is exactly why I decided to just buy two refurbished assemblies rather than rebuilding them myself. The actual assembly of the new parts seemed to be pretty straight forward but the reaming is what convinced me to go the "preassembled/complete unit" route. In the end, the cost of the units including shipping was not much more than doing the job myself and certainly a lot less than having the local LBC mechanic do it, though he is worth his wage, or getting them from Moss/VB/etc. On top of it all, I got to keep the cores for future adventures.

Looks like you got what you paid for, and those swivels don't include the upper trunnion, lower trunnion, or wishbone hardware, correct? When you use cheap parts and assemble them in a slap-dash manner, that is what you get.
