Tom,

ARP makes a three inch stud, can't remember the number off the top of my head. The knurl is just a little larger than the stock unit. I opened up the hole, pressed in the new stud and put a small tack weld in to be safe.

Moroso's from the Summitt catalog. Just match measurements.

Ditto, I done this more on Spridgets than MGBs, but I have to do this in the near future on my street MGB. With the Spridget and possibly the MGB the Moroso and simular studs may have a slightly larger knurl then your factory units, if so you may have to redrill the holes in the hub, I normally leave about .008"-.010" in interference on studs and then press the in. A common mistake is to go with a normal press fit interference like .002' which will almost always will be too loose. maybe Jesse will chime in here, I'm sure this is something he had done alot with MGBs.

I have a spare 7/16" (MGA ) and a spare 1/2" (MGB ) stud and the knurl fit the hubs perfectly. I don't have the part numbers but I can measure if it'll help. Basil

Basil I'd be interested in a part number for the 1/2" MGB stud if it's handy for you, I'm going to be doing the spline drive hubs to bolt on hub conversion in a few weeks on my street car, and I know I'm going to need longer studs for the rear axle to do this.

What is the benefit of the longer studs? If you ran a wider wheel, I get it. Is that the purpose?

Couple things-

Most sanctioning bodies require an open wheel nut with exposed threads out the nut. This proves that you have (or should have) enough thread engaged that the lug nuts won't pull loose in service. It also lets you adjust track width by playing with spacers.

I think in Hap's case, he needs to run a 3/4-1" spacer on each side to run a bolt on wheel with a wire wheel axle using a bolt on hub. This is to keep the tires from rubbing the inner fenders due to a too- short axle

I'd like to see a .005 press with green locktite in the press. No need for a tack weld if pressed in properly.

The smallest knurl diameter on a longer stud that I found with ½-20 threads is the Moroso 46220, .563 knurl. The MGB has a .509" knurl, that knurl is available as a metric stud in a longer version but I have yet to see a long, ½-20 stud that is a straight fit into the MGB hub.
