I'm in need of two tops and one bottom. I don't think they are "handed", left or right. I have one lower, and need the rest.
I have a partial set from a '69, just looking for the rest. And, of course I also want to use them for molds to make something new for morSpeed Performance... ;)

oh, I'm not making reproductions, I'd like a set for my car, but I'd also like to use them as molds to make a differnt type of tail lamp, using round cycle lenses for separate brake and turn signals. French the lenses, body color on the surrounding area, and eliminate the chrome retainer. Something like the old Datsun Roadsters.
Now, I'm not saying it will float anybody's boat, maybe not even mine, but you never know until you try.
They're not handed...I'd like to see a set that didn't need the chrome rings - amber on top, red on bottom....I can send you a few, Tim.

Lovely!
But you want the "pointy-kinda" lens rather than the later "faceted" kind.
Tony's gottcha covered. Let us know when you've a new creation!
yah, I want the ones with the point down the middle, that are rounded. Not the later facted ones (I'm also considering removing the fender welting too, smooth out the top seam-I know that's going to bunch alot of undies around here...)
Tony- I need 2 tops and 1 bottom. PM me, let me know what you need for them.
Tony,
The lenses came today. Once the weather breaks and school settles in (I'm a professor at local university), I'll start working on my tail lamp idea. You'll get the second set (the first ones are mine, they'll be plugs - trust me, you won't want those ones).
You are the greatest! I wish I could pop over and bring you a beer! Maybe next time I'm in Atlanta, I'll try to break away for the day with my dad.

Started making the mold today. I'm always nervous when I start slapping gel coat on an original piece. I'll post some pics later. Have to make one side of the lens at a time. Will be a two piece mold, that's just to make a plug to start cutting up.
Now if I had someone local with a lathe that could mill up some cones for me, once I pick the lenses, I'd be real happy. for now, I'll cut 2 circles, put in a a spacer, fill with foam, and shape with a belt sander.
Small red lenses may be a problem. Amber are all over the place. Anyone have any thougths on small red round lenses, similar to those on motorcycle turn signals?
I can get clear with red bulbs, but not sure if I/we'd like that (ricer) look, or make a mold of an DOT approved lens and cast in red.
Don't want a ricer look! Just amber top, red bottom without chrome!
noooo, no ricer look!! That's what I'm trying to avoid!
Is why I might have to cast my own lenses - http://www.alumilite.com/howto.cfm?ID=24 - in red.
I need to measure, but I was thinking these lenses-

Nah, that'd make it Cobra-ish & wouldn't finish out the lines of the body like the original lens do - remember, they were part of the little fins.....why can't you use the original lens & somehow make a frame that can be color coordinated with the body?
then why not just blast and paint the frame?
My thoughts were to use the original lens shape with frenched lens The lens shape will have the frame incorporated, but smoothed out. It will keep that center ridge line, and the flat section that was a reflector, which I'll have to source, too.
In an earlier post, I was looking to make something that similar to Datsun tail lights of the same era.
Oh, now I can see it - that might look nice...I just had to have it dumbed down so I could see it in my mind.
