hey guys,
Well i finally got the engine put back in and a new clutch put into place. Now I'm waiting for parts I'm starting to get the itches about what new stuff i can put on it now. So I'm looking for a set of 4 wire wheels (any condition) and a smiths heater in decent condition. any info would be awesome.
thanks, Alistair

Jon, first - have you checked eBay? Wheels can be a bit pricey sometimes, but the heater shouldn't be too big a problem. Also, try posting this on the Trader forum also (if you haven't already done so). That seems to get a different audience for these things.

Watch what you say JON, wire wheels in any condition may turn up a lot of junk

Robert is right Jon.

You have to be careful with wire wheels. Attention must be paid to the general soundness of the rims and the spokes but too you should clean and carefully inspect the splines inside the hubs. They get worn down and can make the rest of the wheel useless. I don't recall exactly where I have seen the best description of the "bad" condition but with a little snooping you should be able to find it. Basically, if the splines are worn to a sharp edge on the peaks they are trash.

Ditto on the splines of the hubs. What is really scary is that under braking you put LOTS of torque on the hubs and if the splines give way, and I have seen some do this, you instantly loose all braking on that particular wheel. Not a nice thought as you are trying to slam on brakes behind someone in a coma in heavy traffic or if you are coming off of a mountain in some haste.
