Are Magnette ZA/ZB axle shafts are worth anything?

Are they like other early axles and made from frozen butter that when thawed fall apart?

Maybe I am too used to early Spridget rear axle shafts.

I've never heard of a broken Magnette axle.
Are you looking for some?

Nope. Just thought before they sit in the weather, exposed to time and the elements, we should determine if someone else needs a set. I assume the axle housing is worth nothing except to those people placing wide-body-kits- on their MGAs/Bs or those who try to rock climb with Magnettes too. This is a high value item. :)

The four speed is outta there as well.

Brian.

They do break. About 15 years ago I dismantled two rusted Z-Magnettes and the axles sold immediately, along with all the straight wheels.

It seems like wheels, axles and the bonnets were the hot items back then.

....and more and more people are ending up with 1800 B motors in them.

Can anyone predict the future? B)

I suppose, like all parts, they can fail but I've owned a few Magnettes and treated one of them brutally in autotests, and never broke one.

Z series shafts are now 55 years old and metal does tend to wear and get brittle with lots of use, flex and strain. Other than the general cautions to be taken with old iron, I haven't heard of any particular problems with axle breakage on Z Magnettes, even when dealing with increased HP and torque of modified 1800 engines. Yes I'm speaking from my own experience.

Where are those folks now? I have axles, a bonnet (a boot) and some rusty but straight wheels.
