I was told by my parts supplier that Maguire's makes a great product to clean plastic windows. I found this product called PlastX (at Walmart of all places - on sale too) and wondered if anyone has heard of or used this product. It's supposed to get rid of oxidation and minor scratches. I haven't used it yet as I just bought a new top. I was just curious.

Works good. I used it when the window had a slight haze. Over a year ago and re-did it last month when the haze began to reappear. I do not know if it will clean up a real bad window.

Thanks Chris, I guess I won't know until I get to that point.

Ron,

I've used it. It's OK for cleaning and minor abrasions. Scratches will remain scratches only cleaner.

Thanks Ted, I guess if you're going to have scratches, they might as well be clean, lol.

That stuff is magic.

Weird, weird, weird !!

I just bought a container of the stuff to try to spiff up the back window on a car that a fellow has put a ton of money onto. Doing a little "detail and clean up work" always helps in the customer appreciation department. :)

Anyway, it did a fine job cleaning the windows, not perfect mind you, but a great improvement.

After that I said to myself, Self, this stuff might work pretty well on glass too. I immediately did the winshield and door glasses. Presto, chango !!! Cleaner and easier than any glass cleaner that I have ever used, so I tried it on Kathleen's Outback windshield, you know the car with five layers of road grime and salt on it. Instantly clear. No streaking and no road film left at all.

I went back to the shop and tried it on the B's gauge lenses and chrome trim. Same thing! Brilliant.

Tomorrow I will finish compounding and waxing the B's paint and then hit the chrome trim with the PlastX stuff. I am sure that it will work well there too.

The product I've bought at Walmart is Kit brand Scratch Out. I'm on my second bottle, and have used it on all kinds of stuff with good results. The most amazing transformation was when I used it on my old Thorens turntable dust cover.

Maguries has a lot of good products, and ive used most of them.
Found that the "cleaner-wax " works really good on chrome..
Car down for awhile just put the cleaner wax on the chrome and dont buff it off
protects from moisture better than chrome cleaner/polish

Jack, you must have been an experimenter (read scientist) in another life. I never would have thought to use it on glass and such. Thanks for the info, going to try it on my windshield tomorrow.

I think that Maguries makes good products, and I generally use them. Have have tried PlastX on the rear window of my MX-5 when it was plastic, and had so-so results. I tried Renovo Plastic Window Polish with much better results, but with the downside of being pricey. I have not had the need yet to clean other plastic parts on the cars. The MX-5 now has a glass window.

I originally bought the Plast-X to clean the foggy headlight lenses on my Grand Cherokee. Did a fine job, so I tried it on the MG's window. Again, happy results!

So would this be the stuff to use on the plastic gague lenses? Just picked up my first rubber bumper car the has the plastic lenses, they are in good condition so don't want to mess them up.

If you wet sand your plastic lenses until they're smooth with 1500 grit paper, then polish them with plastic polish, they turn out brilliant!

I use this stuff to get the scratches out of my sandblaster window (plexiglass) and it work extremely well.

A quick fix for foggy convertible top windows is furniture polish. You have to apply it weekly, but it makes them clear. Be careful not to use ANY chemicals on the top windows unless you have to. It breaks down the plastic over time, leaving them dry, chalky, and translucent.

I too have a new top and the back plastic window is in great shape. After telling my Aunt & Uncle in England of my latest purchase he advised of this product called Greygate
Link

that helps in the transparency of the windows. I went to the website and there is not much on it, maybe one of the Brit members can advise more on the product. and it may only be available in England for that fact.
