That 77 B in Phoenix I mentioned... got the email from the ex... she's asking $3000 or best offer. I suspect she'd go down to $2500. Not as cheap as I thought she was going to go, but still a pretty good deal, I think.

She can be reached at:

Thanks....I will send her an email......As I wrote, it might make sense to have the engine installed/alignedby a pro just to get her running but it sounds like that may add another $500 to $1,000......

if you are gonna do the work on this car, installing the engine is easy

Since the engine isn't attched, I'd need to rent a truck with a trailer plus figure out a way to get the engine home...By the way, how much does an engine weigh? Then I'd need to buy or rent a hoist for a week or so right? Just trying to figure these things out in advance....By the way, I hope to hear back from the owner today and check her out tomorrow. Perhaps I will take pics and post them for everyone's opinion....

The engine weighs about 300 to 350 pounds. Not light. You'll definitely need a hoist, unless you've got some stout friends. And Chuck's right, if you're reasonably patient, installing the engine is no big deal. We'll walk you through it!

Heheheheheheheheheh...I'll swing by JDW's in the RV w/empty trailer on it...he & I will run down to Phoenix & pick it up for whatever price JDW calculates....oh, JDW I get around 9 - 10 mpg on RV

...or, we could take the pickup...

Do it, DO IT, DOO IT! We'll load up my cherry picker and put that sucker in while we're at it, but it will cost you Marc. You'll ned t run down to Nogales and grab me a couple liters of good, I mean primo, Mezcal and grab a gallon of orange juice on the way home. I promise to drink nothing but sweenened iced tea while working, that's what I do at home, and celebrate the triumphs of the day when I stop.

You guys should have seen what I got into on the Jettup today. The exhaust manifold has ears on it and the exhaust pipe has solid ears on it , but neither has studs or bolt holes. How about that?! The pipe is held to the manifold by two Very strong flat springs that are shaped like tall Cs. These have to be spred to span the ears and hold the pipe securely in any temperatures. VW has a special tool to spred and install them, but of course there is no such tool in town. I got them on anyway without a busted knuckle, bruise, one cuss word, or damaging anything. I'll tell you about it some time.
