Hi, my name is eric and i just started a total restoration project on a 59 mga that has been sitting for 30 years. I am going to pull out the motor soon, and was wondering if anyone could recomend a shop to rebuild it in northern california around the sacramento area. I am doing most of the work myself, but would like to have the motor rebuilt by a professional because i have no idea how to do it. THANKS

Alright! It looks like a great project starting with a complete car. You should hook up with a local MG or British car club for advice on local shops. For a list of California clubs see here: http://chicagolandmgclub.com/links/usclubs.html#california

RETTIG BROS., INC. 209-529-8016 in Modesto could do the machine work for you. Then if you want a British car garage to put it back together the Nock Family at British Car Specialists British Car Specialists would be who I would call if I did not do the work myself. Or you could see if Basil would do it for you

Eric,
I highly recommend British Car Service, off of Fulton Avenue in Sacramento. Twenty years ago they rebuilt my Triumph TR3A engine and later this Summer I intend to bring over my 1959 MGA 1600 engine for similar treatment. On Monday when I go to the office I will add the name of the fellow who did the work, and who is still there.

Try Tri-Valley Machine in Pacheco, CA (925) 682-3798. I used them for my Sprite motor. Basil turned me on to them...

Dan Kelly, as mentioned, is excellent, honest, fair, and experienced. He rebuilt my eType engine, services my XJ8L, etc. You can't go wrong with Dan.
