While I had my radiator out to replace the water pump I decided to fill the steering rack. The gators looked good so I filled.
Guess what?
These were 23 years old but I dont know when they developed a leak.Who supplies gators that will last a while???

Gil, I've read somewhere that NAPA had a replacement gaitor that fit well and worked and seemed to last but I can't remember where I saw that or the part number. If I remember I'll let you know but don't hold your breath. Meanwhile I'd take an old gaitor to NAPA and see if they can match it up.

I just cruised through the old posts and some have suggested using the BHive gaitors. The NAPA number for the B gaitor is NCP2691507 according to one post, but Barney points out that the B has a slightly thicker arm. So, perhaps the number will at least get you to the right area of their parts book.

I remember back when I was doing Lizzie of the problem with these boots. I had bought some from SF, installed them, and when the frame was just sitting not even turning the steering, my new boots just split. One thing I noticed is how thin the rubber was compared to the old ones. Though I got replacements but did not like the idea of them splitting again when the car got assembled. So I ordered some from VB and they were thicker. I have had those on ever since and no problems. That is my experience with the boots.

I used Moss for mine. I know there had been some bad press on them, but apparently the batch mine came from were okay. They have been on for 6 months, small amount of driving and no leaks. I wonder if these "bad batches" are more random and uncontrolled then the suppliers would like to admit.

I've been using gators form Moss Motors. First installed in in 1977, put into service in 1986 (survived long term storage and restoration work quite well). I have records of replacing each side only once, parts last purchased in 2003, one replaced in 2004, the other replaced in early 2007 with another 23,000 miles on it since and still doing fine. In short, I have no experience with Moss parts supplied in the past five years, but otherwise their long term record seems to be okay from my experience.

Thanks all I orders some from LBC today. I think the ones on the car now came from Moss in 1983.
Dont know when the right one split tho. Leak is on top.

T, A, B and Midget are all unique. NAPA only carries a version of the B.

Nice heavy gaitors from Jeff Zorn. I changed the leaking one to day and to my surprise it was not rotted or anything just a hole at top in one pleat like a screwdrier hole. Other one looked great.
Messy job had just filled with oil.
Now to adjust tow
