A question for the MGA racing guys. I installed a MGB front end in my MGA vintage racer. I seem to have a oversteer problem I cant fix. Anyone else install a B front end in their car? My alignment has been checked several times. I have Tried a LSD, and Welded diff. tire press have been fiddled with. Any thoughts?

Andrew, is this a general feeling of the car wanting to turn more than you ask for, or a sudden snap oversteer/rear end breakaway?

If it's the latter it's likely due to something in the rear bottoming out such as the shock or??:S

hi Dave
It seems to be brought on by the gas pedal, while turning in. On the one left hand turn at Lime rock, it does not act weird. someone mentioned that the MGA Steering rack is set back, and the MGB steering arms are far foward, or long. Any thoughts/

What do you mean by "brought on by the gas pedal"?? The gas pedal is not connected to the front end. Oversteer is almost always a rear suspension issue, not front. I don't know about MGA rack position relative to MGB.:S

Hi Dave,
some genius at the track said that the mga Steering Rack is mounted back, close to the crank pulley. He said the arms go foward out of the steering rack, causing bump steer. He said he eliminated bump steer in his car by making steel pieces that positioned the rack foward an inch or so.does this sound like total crap?

Hi Andrew,

I race an MGA with a B front end and I don't have any oversteer issues. It understeers so I modulate the gas pedal a bit. The steering rack was not moved or repositioned either. Did you do anything to the rear suspension?

Andrew, the reason that I am asking questions is to get a better idea of what the car is actually doing. There certainly can be ROLL steer in the front end due to steering geometry but it won't be responding to throttle input.. Can you E-mail a picture showing the tie rods and their attachment to the steering arms.8-)

I have installed MGB kingpins and rotors in a MGA. If you are just using the MGB kingpins then you had to cut off part of the rack where the tie rod attaches so you could get the toe to come in. I do not know what it does to the geometry but the MGAs I did never seamed to handle as well as a stock MGA. I wish I could be more help. Bob

How about the caster angle on the king pin setup? Can you adjust the bottom end forward?
My 10 cents and good luck!
