MGB: MGB Engine Torque Spec's [Mains/Con. Rods etc...]

Hi all,
So today my Dad and I are reassembling the engine and I get out the Hayne's manual to check out the torque specs for the main bolts since we're doing them first. The manual says 35-45lbft or so [I'm going from memory here] and my Dad says "no way". He said the "bolts are almost like a SBC and that's too little." I'm thinking "I don't know, I've never done this before! It's not a SBC it's a B!!!". :)

So guys, are the torque specs in the Haynes manual correct? I've been searching the 'net for some specs but I'm not having any luck what-so-ever. If anyone has a link for torque specs or a PDF or anything like that can you help us out?

Thanks,
Craig Q.

Ok,
I admit it, I made the mistake ;) What I was reading from was the torque setting for the "big end bolts" and "big end nuts" [big end of the connecting rod that attaches to the crankshaft]. That's at 35-40lbft. I'm glad we stopped when we did :) I do know for a fact that I was reading off the correct clearances for main bearings and thrust washers... :)

What we need is the main bearing bolt torque settings. The Haynes manual shows "main bearing nuts" at 70lbft, but the 5-main engine we have uses bolts, not nuts. Any ideas on the setting for the bolts?

Thanks again,
C.

To the board for wasting space, or someone's bandwidth. :)

Sorry for the irky request guys. Dad found the proper torque specs in one of his old "mechanic's handbooks" from "his youth". These little books are packed with information!

All's good...
Have fun and be merry
