MGB: Missing Float Bowl Overflow

My rear HS4 SU AUD 135 does not have an overflow tube on the lid. This seems strange to me. Perchance is this lid from a later model HS4?

What is the number on top of the lid, I think it starts AUD????

Unfortunately I'm at work in Azerbaijan and can't check the number.

Was there a version of the SU that did not have an overflow tube?

Ken,
Here’s a shot of my rear hs4-135 with overflow pipe and tube. You may have a
miss-matched set or just missing the pipe. Does the tag on the bowl read 135? Is there a hole there where the pipe should be? Could it have come loose and disappeared? I’ve had my fuel intake pipe come loose and had to JB weld it back in.

Some SU flaot lids have a tube, some with just hole of venting, useally you saw the non tube versions, on the later 1275 Midget. They will have a little aluminum cover with a small eybrow on the bottom of it, it just clip on to the float lid, if you pull it off, you'll see a hole drilled in the float lid for a vent. This type is perfectly acceptable to use.

Here's one of the float bowls I'm talking about, you would see them on HS2 Midgets, but these flaot lid will bolt right on a HS4 and are completely interchangable, so it would be easy enough for one to end up a a MGB. In the first picture I'm shoing you the vent cover, it's where my finger is, it's nothing more than thin aluminum sheetmtal piece that clip on and off. The second photo is with the vany cover snapped off, so you can see the vent hole.

Here what this float lid looks like from the top.

There is a small hole in the lid but it is on the side of the lid where the overflow tube should be, not underneath the fuel intake tube as per your pics. Otherwise the lid is exactly the same as the front one.

They made a zillion different kinds, but it sounds like your vent is the same sort of deal as the one I posted, it may look different, be in a slightly different place but works the same way, the little snap over piece is basiclly a dust/debris cover.

Sounds like the result of someone's raid on a "good, but used" parts bin to fix a problem. One of the guys in the club I belonged to had the fuel tube come out of his float bowl lid and couldn't get it to stay in and not leak, so he had to find a good one among the club members. Whoever did this was, perhaps, not so lucky and had to take pot luck. As suggested, just look for the correct one to replace this one and get your setup back to original.
