I have asked questions about putting the OD tranny into my non-OD B (the OD is from a '77 and is going into my '76) my question is this, the black and red wires that run down the gear shift lever, where do they hook into? As always, thanks for all the help in advance, Mack

Those would be the switch wires; one should go to the lock out switch on the trans and the other should go to the power wire in the harness IIRC.

Chris thanks for the reply but I am still not sure, here is what I have, I am putting the OD into a non OD B, I removed the short wire harness from the donor car, starting from the right hand side of the firewall this is what I have, two spade connectors one B (black) and one W/r and a black ground, next two bullets one W and one W/r next two bullets both W/n next two single bullets and one double, the two singles both W/n the double are both W, next one bullet W/n and two spades one W and the other W/n, these two go to one of the switches on the OD, next two more spades to the other switch on the OD one G and the other G/n, last three bullets one G, one G/n and last W/n. I just dont see where the red and the black from the gear shift hook into unless I still need some wire off of the donor car, sorry for such a long post, I appriciate any and all suggestions, thanks Mack

You'll need to check the wiring diagrams for both the '77 and the '76 and figure it out. The reason it isn't obvious how to hook it up is that your '76 has the switch on the steering column, and the '77 on the shift knob - so you'll need to be a little creative to merge the two.

You want a 12V lead that's only hot when the ignition switch is in the "run" position to go to one side of the inhibitor switch, the other side of the inhibitor switch goes to one of the wires leading to the shift knob switch (doesn't matter which one), the other one from the shift know goes to the wire leading to the solenoid. That'll complete the circuit when the car is running, the switch is in the "in" position, and the lever in 4th (or 3rd and 4th, depending on which transmission you have).
